Just got my 5 quarts of AMSIOL Synthetic 0W20 Signature series motor oil from Amsoil in Canada. Total price $73.08 delivered to my home in Toronto. Delivery time 2 days.

The oil is for my Hyundai Sonata 2009 GL (88500km). Currently I'm using Pennzoil Ultra 5W20 and will do a UOA at about 14000km on the oil with a particle count.
Any one having experiences with this Amsoil 0W20 in a Sonata too?

This is a ridiculous price for oil . Even for Canada. You paid more for 1 quart synthetic than I pay for 5. Hyundai builds a very tight motor that is very easy on oil . You would have done better with any 5w20 and the same oci unless you want to test a 25000km oci..
I know you have the right to use any product you wish ,but I THINK, in this case, you were not prudent with your money.
You can go to any toyota dealer and buy 0w oil for a lot less. I believe that your motor ,even the the tundra you live in, does not warrant it especially durring summer.
Your choice.

I know $73 is lots of money for motor oil. Last week I saw at Toyota in Toronto $32 for 5 LT of Toyota 0W20 synthetic oil.
When I told to the service department, they recommend 8000km OCI for their oil.

The Amsoil 0W20 have a OCI of 40000km so it looks like a better deal to me...

Well, to start with, you can run the Toyota oil a lot longer than 8k km....they just 'recommend' that OCI to CYA, and sell more oil.

Your Sonata is most likely still covered by a warranty, so you will want to follow whatever OCI Hyundai sets out for that. It would be really, really foolish of you to do a 40k km OCI on a vehicle still under warranty, or even if not under warranty, that OCI is too long w/o doing UOA's to verify oil condition...etc...

When you can get Pennzoil Ultra for $36 for 5L right now at WM, paying that much for Amsoil is not really worth it. I think Amsoil makes great products, but the prices they have charge just can't compete with other syns on WM or CT shelves.

The price looks about right to me, considering its retail and the shipping charge is included in the total. ( $10 a quart + shipping)

I will do a UOA at 20k km and another at 35k km to see if the oil is still OK. The vehicle is not under warranty anymore.

Every 10k km I will change the oil filter with an OEM filter just to be on the safe side.

This is my first Amsoil oil change...I like to experiment.

You should purchase by the case. Amsoil gives you a volume discount when you do.

For example: 16 [email protected] + shipping (~$14 total)/quart in other words, per quart incl. shipping; $8.75/quart.

For the folks that complain about the price....get a life. Do you balk at those that buy "more car" than they "need"? Are you the economic police? My audio systems cost more than your cars...I suppose you should begin yelling at me too.

I could care less what others spend their money on BUT almost $15 a quart is too much for oil, IMO.
For that price you could get 3 5qt jugs of QSUD and lunch.
While I have no doubt that Amsoil SS is an excellent oil I would rather change more frequently with a quality oil like QSUD, PP etc....

Economic police. I don't think so.Its about the oil man..
Its jokers like you that keep prices high for all of us. I bet you go the the most expensive gas station you can find too. Give that money to Hezbollah..
Audio systems ... talk about getting a life. Stone age..
For some reason I bet you like rap too..

^okay, guys let's accept others have a right/reason(valid or not), to make informed(relative to that individual) decisions on paying for an oil they want or not. Price or not well in mind. You can get into an "I paid only THIS much" game, but in the end one consumer alone isn't keeping prices high. At least not an individual person buying oil for a few vehicles max.

Keeping things in perspective, please.

Personally? I believe the OP paid way too much for ASM alone. I can get an entire oil change and then some as a PC'd with Amsoil. The oil costing little more than half of what the OP paid. If we want to keep it in the context of pricing for Amsoil, couldn't the OP do better even for Amsoil?

^True, on topic I'd like to say I've heard great things about the ASM product the OP just received. My friend is using it in his Honda Fit. Doing quite well for him, so I hear.

with 89K Km, why isn't the 2009 model under warranty? I thought Hyundai has been offering 100 K mile warranties for a while now

Yeah, but can you really run the Ultra 20K kilometers, since it is half the Amsoil's price?
Not so sure, and the maker doesn't say you can.
Amsoil SSO is a proven long-drain oil, although whether the OP can really run it to 40K kilometers will depend upon how he operates the car.
Also, he can run the oil as long as he likes, but his warranty will be toast should anything bad happen to the engine, which is unlikely.
If the OP can really get the kind of use out of this oil that he thinks he can, then the cost per mile ends up being quite reasonable.
OT, oil prices in Canada are insane by the standars of those to the south of you.

Most of my kms driven, is highway---50km one way to work, 50km back home again, four times a week. I think what will be pretty easy on the oil. A OCI of 40k kms should be possible....

I paid $10.50 per quart for Amsoil, some other synthetic oils here in Canada range from $10 to $13.50. I think that was a fair price for Amsoil here in Canada.

As mentioned.....oil can be a bit more expensive in Canada, as can shipping.
I do find, here in the USA, that ordering oil by the case helps with the per quart shipping cost.
However, you will need to compare for shipping to your particular location.

You may have a Amsoil dealer near you that can help also.
Or, if you go together with someone else and order your oil together.

One thing that comes up with Redline, that might apply here also......(particularly if the SSO line has a POE base stock).
The FIRST run of the oil, when switching from another brand/type may not yeild you the best results in oil analysis.
I have read that Redline needs a couple of Oil Change Intervals before the results settle down......as the first and even 2nd fill are doing some cleaning, which may make the analysis in those look less impressive than they really are.
This may or may not apply with Amsoil SSO, but I'm thinking that it may.

I'm not a extended OCI person, but I would shy away from going too long without an oil analysis.

Also.....make sure that you pick a good solid filter.
Another option is to change the oil filter part way through (if that is do-able without too much problem).

I am not familiar with your particular vehicle.
While I suggest looking into ways to get the best price for your choice of oil, one needs to compare the cost of taking the vehicle to a shop and having a oil change done using a top shelf synthetic oil, in your particular market (more $$ in some areas than others).
I like to make that comparison......how much does it cost to have the work done, using good products.......vs doing it myself and using better products.
It helps to put things into perspective.

While I don't use Amsoil, I would certainly trust their product.
As long as it is the correct viscosity as called for in your application......it is a great choice.

Wow that's a lot of money. Make sure you run it as long as you can to get the full value from it.

Thus the term "boutique oil". If you've got the money for the boutique, then good choice.

You might look for the closest distribution ctr to your location. It may be hundreds of miles away, but the next time you travel there you can stop by and stock up and save on the shipping.

I once tried the above while on a trip to Dallas. Was going to buy the mother-load. Got stuck in Texas Ranger baseball and Six Flags traffic. Got there after closing time. One of those oil stories.

My plan of action for my up coming oil changes at 96 000kms: Which one look the best:

Plan A: 40 000km run

Motor oil - Amsoil Signature series 0W20

Filter changes:
0 km - OEM filter
10 000km - Mobil 1 (M1-104)
20 000km - Same filter, no change but will do a UOA.
30 000km - Puralator One filter
40 000km - change oil and do a UOA with a particle count.
Estimated cost: $150

Plan B: 40 000km run

Motor oil - Mobil 1 0W20 AFE

Filter changes:
0 km - OEM filter
10 000km - Mobil 1 (M1-104)
20 000km - Same filter, but change oil (Mobil 1 0W20 AFE) and do a UOA on the orginal fill.
30 000km - Puralator One filter
40 000km - change oil and do a UOA with a particle count.
Estimated cost: $158

Your Hyundai, being only 2 years old and 89,000 km, still has a warranty on it.

Doing a 40k km oil interval on a car this new, with warranty coverage, is stupid.

Why are you SO determined to do a 40k km OCI???

If you do a lot of hwy driving, use something like PU, PP, or another 'sale' synthetic, and change every 12k km.
