While I have no problem to those who live entirely off of the rebate/discount "spot market", you do have to realize that everyone cannot follow your lead. You're 100% relying on surplus in the market.

And technically, any company employing salespeople is doing so because of surplus in the market.

No surplus equals every quart or item is sold or pre-sold as it is produced.

Well, you can take it to the technical level.

Oil is almost like milk at this point ..with a few distinctions. Milk is a variable supply with non-elastic demand commodity. You aren't going to USE any more or any less of it due to price.

Now taking BITOG stash/shrine hounds out of the equation... and there ends up being a stable demand floor. No one here seems to alter their oil change habits due to getting a great deal on oil. They build their stash. No one doing 1000 mile OCI's since they got QS whatever FAR. They're still stuck in whatever mud they find comfy. 3000, 5000, 6 months...

So, the only way that anyone is getting substantial slashing of price from any given producer is due to those who used/bought it at full price (or were brand loyal in spite of discount offerings on the market)..providing the surplus that others are benefiting from.

I does alter my choice of oil though.

5 Qt of Amsoil XL = $28.90

5 Qt of Motorcraft Synthetic Blend = $12.26

5 Qt of Quaker State Full Synthetic = $8.76 (After $10 Rebate)

Thats not a real hard choice for 7500 mile changes in our Hyundai Accent.

Absolutely. You aren't the average Tig who has used M1 for the past 32 years. You're also not the TallPaul who likes MaxLife or Valvoline in general.

Under your criteria you'll never use lots of products.

That's fine. It's got as many limitations as it does liberties.

Forget it, the guy changed his mind. He wants to sell it only if I set up an appointment to have him change the oil (he owns a garage). Is that even legal in the Amsoil dealer world? That stinks.. He had me excited. He just lost my business.
