Decided to try out a newer and lower priced product from Amsoil. SynBlend in 5w30:

Understand, I am not an oil expert like some on here, but I do know that Amsoil makes good stuff, and they dont hold much back when it comes to spec bulletins. It meets API, and Dexos1 Gen3, so I know it is good for my daughters 04 Tahoe. It was up for a change after nearly 5k, nearly 6 months.

I plan to do two changes, probably at 3k-5k and do two oil analyses. To hopefully show a small trend, and show the performance of the oil.

The engine runs like a sewing machine, with no noise, good power, and get about 17mpg highway.

This engine, 5.3LS, has been changed regularly, for the last 4 years, and although it has typical leaks for a vehicle of its age, it uses no oil to speak of.

This first change will be run through a Champ XL synthetic media filter, and the next run through a ACD UPF46R, as those are what I have in stock.

The usage of this vehicle is typical, a daily driver. It gets started in the morning, with a short warm up, maybe 5 mins, then driven to work, which is 10 miles away, mostly at 55mph or so. Once a month. it is driven about 7 hours round trip to Wilmington, NC.

The oil that came out was Napa 5w30 Synthetic, with a Napa Gold filter. (Likely the last Gold I ever buy).

I'm a full synthetic convert....... about 32 years ago.
What was the shipping cost for these six quarts? You just missed Amsoil's free shipping promo a few weeks ago.

BTW..... I'm ecstatic about how well my Hyundai 2.4 engine has fared with Amsoil Euro 0w30.
Lastly, that's the first I've heard on the Champ XL being synthetic media. Mine purchased 24 -30 months ago is a blend

yeah, I am too, but figured why not? For me shipping was free.

The filter box says "synthetic"

Not really of note. I check my daughters Tahoe weekly, and have not seen anything that i would not otherwise expect. Oil is darkening at a normal rate, and engine is purring like a kitty.

I would say that maybe the oil is darkening at a bit faster rate than the Napa syn valvoline that it normally uses, but that is speculation. The truck is about 1500k since the oil change.

i have not done an anaylsis in a while for this engine, probably going to drain at 3000 or so.

Thanks!

I think I am going to do the old school 3 months, 3000 miles interval on this oil change. It has been 3 months now, and I think and EOA would be in order now. What do yall think? Close to 3k

ok. I will wait till 3k.

She has not did the drive to wilmington and probably wont, which has increased the time interval. Looking like after the first of the year at this point.

Current mileage is 182188.

Oil looks proper, with a slight dark color as I would expect..seems like a good oil.

If you are a preferred member, it's a good price for a gallon or quart. Dexos 1 Gen 3 too. It'll be nice to see a VOA and UOA in this oil.
