I am just starting my second ARX cleaning with synpower 5w30 and MC 820s filter in my 99 Expedition 5.4 SOHC,i was using TSO 0w30 after the first cleaning but still had slight lash noise. The noise has now all but disappeared so I'm wondering about either the S3K or the new SSO for this ford modular.Does anyone have experience with these oils in this type engine?I drive approx 10-12k a year and would like to stay with a once a year OCI.Thanks

I've seen the best Amsoil UOA's in the Ford 5.4. TSO. I'd use SSO.

Thanks a lot.Pablo i believe it was EO11 i was using before, will the Motorcraft 820s be suitable for that time/mi?The cost difference over a year is minimal so i don't mind spending a little more for the EO if its going to do a better job under these conditions.

I don't think the FL820S is rated for 10-12k miles, but I'm sure there are those that have done it. I like this filter for shorter intervals of say 5-8k miles. It gives quiet start-ups on the modular engines. For longer intervals like yours, I would feel much better with the EaO11 or a Mobil1 M1-210

The modular engines are generally pretty clean running engines. Not much to clog filters with really. I would be comfortable going 10K on a Motorcraft Filter.

I have had 2 oil analyses done on my 4.6L with a Motorcraft FL820S from Blackstone that both showed .1% insolubles, and these were the only 2 insolubles reports I have for this engine. Both samples were from 5K miles, so I would say that filter was still doing a heck of a job.

Yes the Motorcraft will last a year. You may want to try six months on each to see which one is more quiet. Techinically the EaO is a better filter.

If you are going to spend the $$$ on the Amsoil oil I would go with the Amsoil filters. Unless the Motorcraft is one of the special filters something to do with the anti drainback set up I am not sure which Ford uses the special one.

AFAIK from this forum a silicon ADBV works best with this Engine. Both the Amsoil and Motorcraft 820S use one.To be honest im kind of torn between the two as Pablo pointed out the Amsoil is technically a better filter i guess its the special media thats used but the Motorcraft has the ADBV in the Ford preferred location.I do read a lot about startup noise with these engines so Pablos suggestion makes sense. Please let me know if my info is correct.
