I have a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 with 50,000 miles and decided to try some Amsoil P.I. to see if it helped. The only fuel system additives I have used are one can BG-44 at 30,000 miles and one bottle Techron Concentrate at 40,000 miles. I only use fuel from two places and both are top tier. The Shell is up to 10% ethanol but I wanted to try the "nitrogen blah blah" just for a change. I like the Conoco/Phillips by my house because it is zero ethanol and top tier. My last 5 tanks of Shell had me averaging 21-22 mpg with 90% hwy and not a light throttle foot. My last 3 tanks at C/P had me averaging 22-23 mpg, usually around 22.3-5. I poured the whole bottle in and filled up at C/P with 91 and drove it HARD. That tank got me 24.1 mpg and again that was with lots o' boost to try and clean it out. I am happy with the results overall. I think I will wait until the end of my next OCI and spring for a BG Injection/Induction service. I did however buy a bottle of Amsoil Power Foam with the P.I. and my question is; should I try and PF it myself or hang on to the PF for the wife's jeep and spring for the BG Inj/Ind service to really clean the valves and cc of my direct injected, turbocharged 2.3 DISI engine?

The injector cleaner will not clean the valves in the DISI engine because the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, the power foam will clean the valves if injected into the intake manifold.

Kent

some cleaners supposedly can be carried around to do some cleaning of the valve surfaces, IIRC.

Redline claims their gas fuel system treatment will survive the combustion process and clean the intake system and the rest of the exit way. Not sure if that would hit the valve inadvertantly, but given how the valves deposit it up Id think it would make there too.

To the O.P., have you seen any loss in performance in your mileage?

Yes, I am aware of that, which is why I asked about Amsoil PF or the BG Inj/Ind service. The P.I. was aimed solely at the fuel system and injectors. I was curious if anyone had experience with the Power Foam in a D.I. engine. I have read that the BG Inj/Ind treatment does a good job on the valves and cc in VAG and Porsche D.I. engines but I don't know of anyone who has tried it in the DISI. I imagine it would work well since the DISI seems less buildup prone than the German engines. I know a few people who have used Seafoam introduced via brake vacuum line but for some reason I just am a little unsure about Seafoam.

I will try the Redline as well in a month or two. The UCL component in the RL would no doubt help the 1700 psi fuel pump. Excluding the last tank my mileage is down about 1.5 mpg from where it was new. That is not substantial and I will see at least as much variance between summer and winter blends or 100% gas and E10. No hesitation, stumbles or misfires and the idle is smooth. The engine does come with iridium tipped plugs from the factory and even at 50,000 miles they seem solid. They are supposed to last another 10,000.
