Most customers that do have mechanical issues are not dealing with an oil related issue 99% of the time, but hey nice try though!

As someone who had a warranty claim paid OUT of WARRATNY due to FOLLOWING THE MFG OCI I'm glad I'm hilarious.

I was laughing all the way in my Rent-a-car while they repaired my head gaskets.

I can promise that if I did not follow their recommended OCI I would have been told to pound sand.

I like Amsoil products. I use them. But until the warranty has come and gone, I'd use XL if I wanted to use Amsoil and eat the $$. Or something else.

Bill

I just showed your post to a floor supervisor and he laughed.

What oil you used has not a [censored] thing to do with the fact you had to have head gaskets replaced. They would've covered the head gasket repair regardless of what oil was in the crankcase.

This is from a service technician, have a good day Bill!
Showed it to a floor supervisor ("Floor Supervisor" of what? Who.. Get his name here so the OP can quote this thread) and got a comment and posted it all within 2 mins on a Sunday.

Ah no. The MFG would not have. I fought them and won.

Whatever. You go talk to your Floor supervisor who must approve warranty claims on a Sunday.

Bill

The guy who handles these situations is viewing your post, had dealt with warranty claims and whether you like it or not, oil has not a [censored] thing to do with replacing head gaskets under warranty.

Like I said, nice try, and maybe next time take the vehicle to someone (dealer) who actually will take care of you.

Ah your warranty!! Oh MY GOD WE ARE GOING TO DIE!!!!!

Listen, sleep well. Amsoil will do you well. Some of the same guys get offended if you try and talk them out of their choices.

No one said die here Pabs.

I don't see why I get a

Who I took it to called the MFG Zone Rep (which would be the same no matter who I went to) and it was the MFG who paid it.

The MFG sure thought my use of oil was important. They requested all the receipts and records for OCI.

I've had a claim that was paid. I'm glad for it.

Next time you have a claim that was paid doing what you do then post it.

But for the people out there that don't post, don't join up but are coming here to get info, I think us saying forget the OCI we know more is not correct.

I'd HATE for them to have a issue later and they bring in posts or quote BITOG.

I'm sure that will get them service.

Thanks for cleaning that up Pablo.

My main thing is if it was ME. I'd be running the XL and doing the 5k (or really 6mo) and getting on with it.

The XL is API SM, an EXCELLENT oil and no hassle plan.

I've had my say.

Take care, bill

That makes no sense at all. Any mechanic, service technician, anyone for that matter with any mechanical knowledge knows oil used in a customers application has nothing to do with the fact there's a head gasket at fault.

Sounds like they were lookin at anything they could just to get outta the warranty. Total shame, because thats NOT the way we or anyone else I know work around this area.

You should send a registered letter to your manufacturer and see if they don't refund you. If not then I would report them to the Better Business Bureau or something like that.

I think that is what Bill is getting at. Even if the issue is not oil related, alot of dealers will still ask about oil changes. If you haven't done them like you are supposed to, then you could be F'ed. I've heard of it happening before, and it is a shame. May as well do what is recommended and save reciepts, after warranty do it the way you want to.

Bill in Utah, don't you know how honest all dealerships and techs are? They never try to get out of warranty work. LOL... I run conventional rotella in my cummins and conventional oils in the camry and crv. the camry and cummins get changed every 5k. The crv once a year which is about 3k. There is no way I can come out ahead running extended drains with a premier oil and the cost of uoas. I have all my receipts and sleep well at night knowing that I will never have to have the extended drain argument with a dealership if a problem does occur. Some do like the extra protection and not having to mess with changing the oil often. I can understand that. I'm with you though. I guess I'll just be hilarious too. From what I have read and talked to many mechanics they are the ones that keep the pennzoil sludge myth going as well. I don't believe I would take anything as gospel from then as well. There is many that know their business but that does not mean they know it all.

It was the MFG who sent out their Zone rep, who I talked to in Detroit and most of all PAID for the repairs and Rent-A-Car.

The Stealership blew me off within minutes. 36k or 3 years is the warranty, you are at 3 years and 62k. Too bad.

Take care, bill

Just ordered a case of ASM for both our cars. It's one of, if not the, best 0w20 on the market IMO.

Amsoil recommends 1 year so it probably would be cheaper to change the Amsoil once a year than to do a uoa to prove that the oil is ok for further use. 1 year is getting your $$$ worth out of the oil.
