Amsoil 5w20 vs PP 5w20

First time poster, long time reader of this board.

I have an Acura TL 2005, 6 speed MT and posted my first UOA on this board.
The UOA includes links to other Acura TL UOAs inclusive of at least one done on Amsoil. My car was lubed by 5-20W Havoline SM exclusively.

In this application, one of the considerations, when choosing oil, is the latters ability to deal with shearing and fuel dilution.

Keeping in mind that an UOA oil sample, taken when engine is hot, will not (likely) show presence of fuel in the analysi, it may be assumed (?) that shearing of the 5-20W oil (to low end of 20 weight) may be secondary to repeated fuel dilution in combination with high performance engine application.

If your TL is going to see short runs, then it will experience fuel dilution routinely. It is a fact of life for the 3rd generation TLs.
Based on that, I would be tempted to use whatever oil resist effects of dilution (and shearing ?). I will leave to members of this board with greater level of experience to point at best oil for this situation.

I provided information regarding my driving habits, environment and some links to other 3rd generation TLs with UOA on this board.

Here is link to my UOA

Thanks in advance for you help.

Well to keep the warranty I have to change it when the MID says too. Until its out, I will have to go by that.

The Acura TL has a very reliable drivetrain. Unless you're flogging the engine, I see no reason to worry about keeping the car under warranty. You don't haveto keep it under warranty - you wantto keep it under warranty.

I really want absolutely no wear on the engine and want the best oil I can get.

If this were true you'd be installing a bypass filter, maybe adding a preluber, extending your oil changes and running a few UOAs along the way to make sure everything is running fine. Over the life of your vehicle if you did this you would spend far less than your current routine and wear would be practically nil.

Of course, this is overkill and you can probably get 500,000 miles on a TL with dino oil and a cheap filter with regular OCIs. So you have to ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

The answer for short runs causing fuel dilution is to replace the oil more frequently. Use the less expensive mineral based SM 5W-20 oils but only run 3 - 4,000 miles.

rogsoil; I've read your post and your test UOA post. The TL #4 post you link to in your test post is my TL. To your point about fuel dilution, I have experienced fuel dilution in my TL as reported by Terry Dyson. I did not post the UOA on the board, but if you want the entire result, I will put it up. Here are a few points; I was using Amsoil 5-20 with 7,666 miles on the oil. Here are some of the values for you; Visc=52.9, Flashpoint=365, Fuel=<0.5, TBN=3.3. The report said the TL had some fuel dilution. Overall the Amsoil product did a good job of protecting the engine with the fuel dilution I experienced. Good luck to you...

When I mention brand vs. brand here I am hammered for promoting or liking this brand etc.etc...etc. so I am limiting that kind of comment as best I can.

I recommend you use UOA to verify what you want to do.

In private and as a paying customer I will tell you what is best based on that UOA and backed by proprietary knowledge that I am unable to share with anyone.

Consider this, Amsoil does not compete at the same market place that XOM or Shell does. Shell is trying to capture the syn market and is practically giving away one of the effective oil chemistries to come along in a while.

.99c a quart is hard to pass on when it can perform as well or better than most others in non racing applications.
