Does anyone have a virgin analysis of the full synthetic Amsoil 10W30 (ATM). Prefferably by Blackstone and done in the last few years, but any is better than none.

I weeded out the off topic replies ,,none were even near replying to your topic post.

This is all I have found although it has 1100 or so miles as described in the post but to be honest I do not think it would be a SL 10/30 Amsoil ATM because of the Phos . I hope Molakule see's this and replies or one of the other Amsoil users or Site Sponsors might have seen the current SL formulation.

I have seen the oil close up,,,,when poured into my car with a 4.6 motor thats in storage,,not much help to ya though

This is approximate - but very close - for both the Amsoil 5w30 and 10w30 formulations:

viscosity @ 100C, 11.8 Cst
TBN, 12.3

Antiwear additives:

Phosphorus, 1250 ppm
Zinc, 1500 ppm
Boron, 40 ppm - a borate ester based friction modifier

Detergent/Dispersant Additives

Calcium, 3200 ppm
Magnesium, 300 ppm

The Amsoil Series 2000, 0w30 looks similiar, but viscosity is approx 11.3 Cst and TBN is about 13.0.

TooSlick ,

Would I be correct in my deductions and assumptions that the AMSOIL 10/30 does not use any VII's as in none, zilch, zero???? I do beleive the 10/40 HP oil uses just a small amount.

Dragboat,

When the Amsoil 10w30 was introduced in 1984, it had no VI modifiers. However, it only had a VI of 142 as I recall and it was about 10.0 Cst @ 100C. The stuff they make now is 11.9 Cst @ 100C - about 20% thicker - and has a higher VI, so I do think they use some VI modifier in the formulation.

Amsoil was buying their VI modifier from Royal Dutch Shell, the last I heard. Shell is well known for their VI modifier technology and they make a pretty shear stable polymer.

Ted, this seems to be further evidence that the lower the VI, the lower the VI improver treat rate—or that possibly no VI improver is used at all. The VI of 142 for this "old" Amsoil 10w30 correlates well with the Mobil 1 SuperSyn, which has a VI of 145. Also the vis at 100*C is virtually the same. It could very well be, then, that Mobil 1 10w30 is free of VI improver. Food for thought.
