Hey guys,
I recently posted a similar question in the oil section. I am looking for a list of American made oil filters and a top five list for these filters when it comes to performance and quality. Also, I am doing an oil change on my wife's 2000 Alero GL with 2.4L DOHC engine. I was wondering if anyone knows of a quality American made oil filter that works great with this car and engine type? I look forward to reading your replies.
Thanks

I think FRAM is made in the USA, as are most other brands, but some Purolators, Champs, and Wix filters are being made in different countries depending on the part #, but I could be wrong.

I haven't seen an E-Core as a cross for the PF-44 that I found for your Alero. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I just haven't seen it. All E-Cores are made in Albion,IL, by Champ Labs. Rock Auto lists a PF-46 that may be American made from AC, and a Pro-Tec that is made by Wix in South Carolina. I'll stop here, since the other thread got closed when it expanded into a discussion about American products and companies.

The easiest way to tell if the filter is an ecore is to look down the center tube.

Ecores have a nylon cage instead of a metal center tube. If you view this thread, you will see what filters champion labs produces, and which may have ecores. So far i've seen them in stp's, ac delcos, valucraft, supertech. Then again, they don't make my filter in an ecore so i dont know many.

Yeah, why do some people here get so bent out of shape because I prefer American made things? Thanks for the input guys, this is a start. What brands of Champion filters contain the E-core? Is there a list?

I found a Champ E-core P44 filter for my Alero. I am going to try this filter with Pennzoil Platinum Full Synth 5w30 and see how this combination goes.

Wouldn't it be easierto just look at the filter and see where it is made in than to memorize what make filter is made in USA? Don't filter companies change where they make things, especially with the amount of outsourcing these days?

Does "eche en Mexico" count?

Yeah, it is easier to just look at the packaging. That is what I find myself doing, when I went out looking for the filter, I made my decision based on the prices, where they were made, and info I received here about quality. I'm sure all the major companies have factories outside the US that produce filters for them.

I had same problem for a completely different application then what your asking for. I was able to find an american made filter by purolator. I don't know if all purolator's are made in the usa but every single one I checked that was on the shelf all said MADE IN THE USA

Buy american all you want, I commend you for your above average intelligence and foresight.

Thanks for the kind words MC5. Hey GTX, did you really notice a difference between an American made and German made Purolator filter? That's really interesting. I think a lot of Bosch filters are made in Germany, but I haven't heard anything about their quality. I kind of wish I had done more searching for a Purolator before I settled with the Champ E-Core. I know we have an Advanced Auto Parts where I am, and I heard they typically carry Purolators. I have a tendency though to like to support this local privately owned parts store that is literally a stone's throw away from my house. The guys there always go out of their way to help and answer questions the best they possibly can. My IROC is desperate for an oil change, so maybe I will try a Purolator on that car.
