It is the largest Internet-based retailer in the United States.

Amazon has separate retail websites for United States, United Kingdom and Ireland, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Australia, Brazil, Japan, China, India and Mexico. Amazon also offers international shipping to certain other countries for some of its products.[14] In 2011, it professed an intention to launch its websites in Poland[15] and Sweden.[16]

In 2015, Amazon surpassed Walmart as the most valuable retailer in the United States by market capitalization.

The thing is Amazon can decide to make lots of profit whenever it needs to make that decision. Instead, it plows the money back in to the business as investment. As long as stock holders are not complaining, Amazon would keep on doing it.

I cross shop when in every store as much as possible. Save a lot of money that way because Amazon is cheaper maybe half the time.

With how much I use the free 2 day shipping and the heavily discounted overnight shipping, I'm definitely paying them less in prime membership fees than I would be in shipping fees if I bought all the same stuff from them without prime (and paid for the same shipping speeds).

I order a lot of supplements from Amazon; many of them aren't Prime qualified, so I have to pay for shipping anyway. So I cancelled my Prime membership when it went up to $99. Now I just add items to my shopping cart and wait until I can place an order for >$35 to get the free shipping. Takes a little planning ahead, but it works.

What I don't like about Prime is if I order say, 8 items, they come in 8 separate shipments. That's really wasteful of resources, IMO. I'd rather they get bundled into 1 shipment, but Prime doesn't do that.

They bundle them if they can ship from the same location easily, but when 1 item is only in a warehouse across the country and has to be sent 2 day and the others are available much closer and will arrive the next day via ground, it's cheaper to just send multiple shipments rather than sending them all together from the further location via the more expensive shipping.

Exactly.

An expanding company reports a quarterly/yearly lost doesn't mean they are actually loosing money.

Just like Tesla, they are expanding production line from around 20-25k Model S in 2014 to around 50k and Model X this year and higher volume next year and the year after, then R&D for Model 3 for release in 2017. They also invest in Mega-factory in Nevada.

Prime member. I like I can shop & order from the recliner. Comes to the home most times fast delivery. Avoid holiday season nightmare. Some things not convenient to find locally.

Today's package - couple CTEK battery charger/maintainers, Viper remote for one of the vehicles.
Seems every week I order a couple things - saves running out and about.
Oh, and that Amazon Stick thing... wife watches some movies. I haven't tried it yet myself (wouldn't know how to since I haven't tried). Sometimes I throw in things she wants on an order and that saves her running out looking to.

No matter, now @ $99 its been well worth it to me. That holiday season is coming up soon again and I'll kick back the recliner to get it done again.
