All You Wanted to Know About Mobil 1

I posted those links to educate, not try to prove that no M1 Supersyn oil has any Group 3 in it.

"I can clearly see that you WANT to believe that (most?) Mobil 1 products are group IV."
No I don't, but every Supersyn M1 does contain at least a small percentage of high viscosity-high viscosity index PAO.

The phrase "Group X based", where X is 1 through 5, seems to me misleading when multiple basestocks are used in one motor oil.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I don't care what base oils they use. It doesn't matter. M1 is clearly one of the most oxidation resistant oils you can buy. The Honda turbo test showed that. Just remember though that ONLY Mobil 1 EP was tested.

Mobil 1 15W-50
Boosted, higher viscosity, fully
synthetic formula designed for
performance vehicles
HT/HS applications.
Racing and Flat tappet
applications. SM None
Nominal &
Relative Phos
Level0.12/H

even Chevron is telling us that flat tappet engines require higher zddp levels.

I went to the Canadian (Imperial Oil) site and noticed that a grade of Mobil 1 is made from "petroleum base stocks" vs "synthetic base stocks." Very interesting, eh?

It doesn't matter if M1 is safe as M1 is the devil. All the makers that spec or fill M1 in theior vehicles are the devil, as there are other oils, certainly a superior botique oil that they could spec or fill. But they don't, so like foosball they're the devil.

I'm new here. I see Mobil 1 on the shelves for a bit over $6 a quart and Pennzoil Platinum at $4 quart. Is Mobil 1 $2 quart better than PP?

How can Mobil 1 be "fully synthetic" when it has always contained some soluble additive carrier petro-base?

Starting with the Tri-Syn formula the mineral oil carrier was replaced with esters. Hence the "exclusive of additive carrier oil" was dropped from the label.

No. The $2 helps pay for those OEM factory fill endorsements from Corvette, Cadillac, Chrysler, Mercedes, Bentley, and Porsche.

Please tell us who is selling everyday-priced Pennzoil Platinum at $4 per quart?

How one defines synthetic varies. Only Mobil 1 5w30 "Extended Performance" was tested and showed Group III. Also contained Group V.

Sweet! Does anyone know about the 5W-20?
