i just got my motorcycle license 2months back. Over this part of the world, after passing the motorcycle test one can only ride motorcycle up to 200cc until more tests after probation period. Therefore I got myself Yamaha Spark T135 until then.

While reading up on motorcycle care, i chance upon this site and had been poking around for the last 1month. After reading up i have decided to use HDEO. Upon checking with fellow rider, they seem to think HDEO is going to destroy the engine. Also for a small motorcycle, the suggested OCI from a local motorcycle fourms is anything from 600-2000miles which i think is too short for a small motorcycle isn't it?

After searching around I have short listed these few oils which is easily availble as well as cheaper.

Delo Silver Monograde
Delo Silver multigrade SPC SDM 801

I am particular interested in Delo Silver monograde and SPC SDM 801. Will monograde be more shear stable or multigrade is better? Temperature here average 83-94F the whole year round so cold weather is not a problem. The lowest we get is around 75F. will the SPC oil do?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading.

I looked over the product data sheets, this is not Chevron DELO and that is for sure. These are very low grade base oils I would recommend you look for a known brand like Castrol, Mobil, MOTUL. I WOULD NOT USE THIS OIL. That is my Opinion though and it depends on how long you plan on keeping this bike. If you use the Delo mono-grade I would only do very short oil changes. If you spend the extra and get MOTUL you can go much further.

Hi.

The data sheet says it is a ChevronTexaco product. It is not the Delo 400 we see here in the US. It also does not conform with the latest API standards that are constantly being renovated here in teh US.

With that said, that does NOT mean it is a bad product or a product not suited for the application.

My 2004 ZX-10R's manual says API SF/SG/etc as one of the recommendations. This oil will fit the bill. However, with the higher quality lubricants here in the US, and the absence of the above posted products, I'm sticking with the HDEO I'm fine with :]

There is no reason an HDEO would not fit the bill. Stay with the multigrade. They have higher quality base stocks (base oils that make up the beef of the product).

I run HDEO in my 2004 ZX-10R. It is a high speed, high performance, four stroke engine. Motorcycles, with their inherently small engines, are well suited for HDEO because of different operating conditions and temperatures in my opinion.

I never had a problem running Delvac 1300 (a Mobil oil) 15w40. I race my motorcycle too. Change it every 3000 miles, or a year, whichever comes first. Or after every race.

Castrol, Mobil, and Motul all make good products. But staying within cost and performance ratio is paramount as well, which could be a valid reason why the original poster wants to use HDEO. I ran Motul fully synthetic oil in my motorcycle before...no surprises, great oil. But there was nothing the the Delvac/Delo/Rotella couldn't do for a lower price and for what I see from my oil analyses.

Have fun, ride safe.

SF is not the end of the world and it could actually pass higher if they felt like it. I have some shell rotella 30 weight out in the garage that meets SJ, also old school.

I would go ahead and run that oil. How does it compare in price and published specs to other brands you may find, but us Americans may not write about, like Rimula X?

The reason for the short oil changes is that your motorcycle has a small oil capacity and the smaller motorcycles typically work harder than the larger ones for the same application.

All things being equal, the monograde should be more shear stable than the multigrade but you sometimes get a lesser oil base when you go with a mono grade oil.

The silver multigrade is a much better oil than the monograde that you listed. It also has roughly 80% more zinc than the mono grade oil that you posted.

We use a lot of Delvac 1300 and it is a favorite of many motorcycle owners. Is the Delvac 1300 much more costly than the others that you are interested in?

Assuming that you are going to use a multi-grade oil, do you intend to use an xw-40 or an xw-50 oil?

Do you have access to a reasonable priced Rotella product?

did more walk about. here are some motorcycle specific oil i shortlisted with price converted to USD rounded off:

1) Amsoil AMO ~$12
2) Amsoil MCF ~$16
3) Redline MC oil ~$15
4) Motul 300V ~$24
5) Motul 7100 ~$16
6) Mobil EO ~$15-18

Another oil i have great interest is schaeffer supreme 7000 20w-50 racing oil. it stated it is suitable for wet-clutch motorcycle but not for those that required JASO-MA which i think my motorcycle manual stated. is it safe to use? i can get it rather cheap in bulk.

of course there are others like belray, castrol, silkolene but more or less sticking to those above.

Considering the prices that you listed for those oils - I like the #2 listing.

That is very very good oil. You can double your oil change intervals with the Amsoil MCF.
