I was checking out filters and I opened an ACDELCO Duraguard and immediately recognized it as WIX made, complete with silicon ADBV. I‘ve posted pictures of it compared to NAPA NASCAR Select which is WIX made also. The PF52 was the only one which looked like a WIX; the others looked to be of poor quality with noticeable amounts of excess glue spread everywhere around the joints (w/ nitrile ADBV). Cost: $3.28 for the ACDELCO @ Wal-Mart for what looks to be the same as WIX/NAPA GOLD.

It very well may be. To really know what you're dealing with, you'll need a good look inside.

What was that line from the movie "Tommy Boy", about buying a steak?

"I can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking my head up a bull's a**, but I'd rather take a butcher's word for it."

Here are some pics of different PF52's, notice only the one in the middle, and the one on the left is a WIX.

I posted about this phenomenon a year or two ago, and am happy to see it still appears to be taking place. I can find the Wix-made AC delco filters pretty easily at O'Reilly auto parts in central Texas. Every now and then, I pull out the equivalent Wix (just to make sure) in the store, but I've never taken one apart to be 100% certain that every part of it is the same.

One other benefit of the Wix made pf-52 is its' length is a little shorter than other AC pf-52's, which helps in tight-space applications.

terminald do you know what manufacturer makes the PF52 application that has the single larger hole compared to the others? I tried a search and one thread had a link, but it was on the old forum so the link was dead.

Nah, I don't really keep up with this stuff anymore. When on sale, I like to buy the Wix/PureOne "rung" of filters for my cars. This is a nice way to get a Wix for the AC Delco pricepoint, so I always look for 'em.

Anybody find this same phenomena taking place with the PF-47 size??

I think i found the answer. According to what I found the filter with the one larger oil is manufactured by Champion Labs.

I am currently on my second rinse phase of Auto-rx. I will switch to Pennzoil Platinum and use this AC Delco filter since I can buy them at my local Wal-Mart. I was planning to go 6000 miles in between oil changes with the synthetic oil. I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix with 151,000 miles on it. Should I go with another type of oil filter? Any suggestions would be gladly appreciated.
