A sports writer pointed out how effective the "1 strike and you are out" was with Pete Rose; perhaps something like that should be implemented. I don't see any gambling scandals in the last 25 years...

I think A-Rod should have been banned for life. If you find out what all of the claims are that he is supposed to have done it is a wonder there are no criminal charges.
Baseball players should be able to hit home runs with their natural bodies and not have to 'juice.' These modern day baseball players can't equal Babe Ruth. I doubt if Babe Ruth was 'juicing' back in the old days, although he was certainly drinking plenty of booze.

Instead they have to rely on chemicals they put into their bodies. If they have to rely on the chemicals then the chemists should be in the Hall of Fame.

I was a firm believer that Lance Armstrong was innocent until proven guilty. Since that debacle , I believe that any athlete who says that they didn't juice is guilty until proven innocent.

I look at it two ways. Guys like A-Rod have a lot of talent and should be happy with their innate skills and the work they've put in to hone them to such levels. I could never play anywhere near that no matter how many injections I took or how much effort I put into it - I'd probably get slaughtered by Little Leaguers. There are plenty of people with a lot of skill who'd love the opportunity A-Rod got and would do it without drugs.
But, in his defence, when you're offering contracts in the $100 million range, it doesn't surprise me that people will take short cuts that are against the rules and the law.

Considering all of the Yankee players that have used PED's and the stupid contract they signed him to, they should have to pay double.
Bud Selig should also be banned. As the commissioner, he stood by and did nothing while baseball profited, and grew with the rampant PED use.

I concur whip. Baseball turned a blind eye when people were hitting 70- 80 home runs a year because it brought interest back to the game. They have then selected only 12 other players to penalize. I am sure there are way more players involved. However, this does give the evil empire a way to void a huge contract without paying any penalties themselves for all the games he helped win. Remember the 2009 World Series. Thanks for cheating one away from the Phils. Of course, we won with JC Romero in 08 so I will not complain too much.

I hope he has saved a lot of the money he has made in his career to this point, because if he loses that appeal his career is finished, nobody will want him, not even as a broadcast personality or manager like a lot of retired players end up doing.

The way I would do it is if he takes the supension he can come back after. If he appeals and is found guilty of juicing, lifetime ban for not coming clean.
The issue is character. If he's mot man enough to own his mistakes he should not enjoy the privilege of playing baseball.
This is not a criminal trial, so beyond a reasonable doubt is not a required standard.

It's really sad what Alex has become. I had the chance to watch him when he first started as he was on the Appleton Foxes (now the Wisconsin Timberattlers) and his future was limitless. At 17 or 18, he was truly a man amongst boys on that field. Now, he's just another cheater that's been caught. Unfortunately, Ryan Braun has become the same thing as Alex.

The best thing that happened to the Brew Crew was when he became the commissioner and he couldn't own or run the team anymore. The current owner has done more for the team than anyone previous, and I actually want to go and see them play to actually see the team and not just who they are playing against.
