Recoil? Not true, one comes to mind is a 100 pound women at my range that handled .40 just fine. Higher cost? Again not true at least for me. Less Capacity? A couple? A few? How many do you need? A war with multiples? Me and my wife will take the .40. Reliability problems? Not for me or people I shoot with. Smaller hands? Shop around and you'll find many that will fit small hands. Hey, you can buy whatever you want.

It also comes with higher recoil, higher cost, less capacity and reliability problems in the smaller guns.

Well, after begging, borrowing and renting about 20 different guns, the wife has settled on a S&W 9VE. I think the poly frame soaks up some of the recoil and that was part of her decision. Every Glock she shot ejected the case right back at her (now I know why all the gangstas hold them sideways in the movies). The 1911 varieties were still to big for her hand, as were most of the other full sized pistols and the compacts were "like toy guns" to her. Hey, it's her gun, I just buy the ammo and clean it while I'm cleaning mine. Thanx for the suggestions guys.

Basically it will be for range use and, if necessary, home security while I'm on business trips. Any suggestions?

PS. She's deadly out to 30 yards with the .40.

Glock G19.. its PERFECT for female hands, its compact enough and light enough to hide concealed and very accurate.. i have one believe me.. i love it! i bought it so my girl could shoot but she is scared of it so i just pretty much keep it beside the bed bc i have a .32 keltec i keep in the truck. i take it fishing too bc it slides in my back pocket or coat pocket

My wife likes the Glock, the best, Iam not a big fan of it, but the dependability cant be beat. Best thing to do is take her to a gun store and let her hold each of the popular nines and see which one she likes, if it is for her. They then tend to like the gun better too, because "They picked it out". I think a nine is a excellent choice, alot of opponents will argue the stopping power, but the high capacity of the magazines is so nice that there are very few instances where you need to empty a 15 round magazine, making it very nice to carry without the need of more amo or magazines. Although a second magazine handy is never a bad idea in case a mag malfunction, rare, in modern high dollar autos, but does happen.

I've sold all of my Glocks (last one gone yesterday) and have gone with S&W M&P firearms.

Excellent shooters, simple to strip and most of all, supported chambers with conventional rifling for reloaded lead bullets!

The Glocks are excellent (I've carried one for many, many years) but the M&P are excellent too. Plus the current $50 rebate and two free mags just made the change over even better.

I've got about 2000 rounds in the 40 compact, 1500 rounds in the full size 9mm and 1000 rounds in the .45acp.

Replaced Models 19, 22, 23 and 21 in the Glock line for me.

(If anyone wants to buy some like new model 23 mags (13 round) PM me

Like oils, thank goodness we have a LOT of choices for firearms out there. The Rugers are excellent too for target/SD (little harder to concel)

Shoot straight. Bill

Bill, when you say the chambers are supported, do you think these new Smith's can handle hotter ammo in factory configuration compared to the Glocks?

Both the Glocks and S&W are rated for +P+ in the 9mm, and +P in the 45ACP.

The .40 is already hot and a +P for that caliber is called 10mm.

The big problem with the Glocks is the unsupported chamber when your reloading (the unsupported is NOT a problem with new factory ammo/ new brass) it is a problem with brass that is reloaded time after time)

I have personally seen brass crack due to the unsupported chamber (slight cracks on the sides of brass) and seen one kaboom at the range. The gun contained the blast and no one was hurt, but not good.

The conventional rifling and the way the M&P shoots for me is what sold me.

I liked my Glocks and had them since they came out but time for change.

Also, I should state that the unsupported barrel is ONLY a problem in the .40 cal, 10mm and 45 ACP. (truth in posting to prevent someone from jumping in and saying 9mm is not a problem..

Take care, bill

I agree with the above recommendation for the Springfield XD. My wife carrys one, the XD-40 .40 cal. She also has a Colt and a Kimber Ultra Carry and has settled on the XD as her favorite gun. Good for me because I get to take over her Colt Combat Elite full size .45
