Here is the result of Analysis. Engine had 252,051 miles, oil had 5205 miles on it. Oil is Amsoil 10W30 ATM, no additives. 1/2 pint of oil added before 1,000 mile trip, no consumption after that. 99% highway miles in 90+ F weather. I have no recent trend analysis, since this is first analysis in 6 years since we moved. Cannot locate old records. Analysis by Oil Analyzers.
Previous Oil was Amsoil 5W30 HDD. Filter is Amsoil SDF23. Engine stock except for Perf. Chip.

How come you drained it out at only 5k? Or did you just take a sample and are still running this same oil? The numbers look pretty good, and I see that it's viscosity is pretty much bang on what it would be with new oil. Did you see similar results with the 5w30 on tests in the past?

Patman,

I also forgot to mention this is a 350 (5.7L), a 4X4, with no teardown or internal mods. As far I know, not even the oil pan has ever been removed. The one thing I have noticed is an oil vapor film on the rockers and rocker cover, not quite a varnish, but probably just materials left over from condensation; I think someone else on this list mentioned this same observation at one time.

I took a sample and am still running it, probably will continue with this oil until fall; no filter change in the 5K+ analysis.

Will most likely take another sample down the road at 3k+.

Actually, Amsoil is on the thick end of the 30wt scale with it's oils. It's 5w30 starts out at 11.7 at 100c, and it's 10w30 starts out at 11.9 at 100c (12.5 would be 40wt)

On the flip side, Mobil 1 is way on the low end of the 30wt scale, it's 5w30 is 9.7 at 100c, and 10w30 is 9.8 (9.3 would be 20wt)
