Hey all, found that my Cutlass has the Sylvania super-blues in it..Not having any issues with them, but after having been educated here about "blue-bulbs" well, Are the Standard replacement GE's worth switching for? Looking for easily "found" replacements or should I just keep what I have..? Thanks!

Exactly this.

I have never been able to tell the difference between Xtravision and regular bulbs in the 9006 shape. For some other shapes, there does seem to be a difference.

For 9006 bulbs, I just get regular ones from whatever brand is available at the store I happen to be in.

If you have the time and $$, get HIR2 bulbs for the 9006 spot. There's lots more usable light than any 9006 with no more glare. Of course, that's not in the cards for everybody.

CAUTION---HIR2/9012 bulbs can cause glare when used in many cars.

The HIR2 doesn't have a full blacktop, so there will be glare if the car does not have full bulb shields.

The HIR1/9011 bulb would be a valid replacement for the 9005 high-beam application, where no blacktop or bulb shield is necessary.

Listen to Stu, he knows what he's talking about.

Look at your low beam lamps. If it does not have a shield completely covering the front of the bulb, do not use an HIR bulb. I am pretty sure your Cutlass falls into this group, as it uses lens optics to form the beam pattern and most do not use a bulb shield. HIR will be fine in the high beam lamp.

IMHO, the next best thing to an HIR is the Philips Xtreme Power bulbs. These do have a painted bulb tip and can be safely used in lamps without a bulb shield.

My LeSabre does have a bulb shield. It's covering the front and sides of the bulb. When I line up 20 feet from a wall, I get 2 distinct patches of light from the low beams, as DOT designs allow. And, the glare is a lot less than 9005 bulbs in the same reflector. I've had both, and recommend the HIR over the 9005 since the glare is much less pronounced.

I agree on the Xtreme Powers being the best 9006 bulb, if someone insists on a 9006.
