German Autobahn with no speed limit in most sections has lower fatality per million mile than other highways.

If driver education and driver license is improved in the US, then unlimited speed can be applied here with no increase in accident.

I would do 100+ MPH if it is safe to do so (provided that no speed limit).

Germans know how to drive and it's much harder to get a driver's license there!

Speed limits only effect those who follow the law. So all the crazy speeders never worried about what the sign said anyway. The only thing that has changed is that IF you want to drive up to 85mph you can do so legally.

Want better mpg or feel safer at a lower speed? then go righr ahead.

On the other had I enjoy getting to where I'm going faster.

Slower drivers stay to the right, that's my biggest pet peeve. 85 would be fun, too bad the posted limit is in South Texas.

The feds should be feeling torn....raise MPGS to 40/50 mpg,and at the same time mandate low low gearing to limit top speed to 65/70.I'm guessing somewhere around 4.56 should pretty much limit OD equipped models.Go faster.....float the valves, hit the limiter,or blow the engine sky high.

Agree. If people feel they can safely do 75-85mph, fine. Do so in the left lane, and everyone else should stay to the right.

Passing/changing lanes causes a lot of accidents.

Agreed. They should make keeping to the right a companion law with the higher speed limits. Without going into any detail, let me point out that camping in the left lane creates dangerous traffic situations.

+ 1 The driving tests in North America are a joke.

I remember taking my test here, I was really nervous, but passed the silly halfe hour test by a large margine.
I know I would have failed that same test in Europe.

I'd like nothinf more then to go 100mph on the highway while in the middle of nowhere. Lower it back to 70-75 when entering city limits with lots of exits and traffic. Raise it back up afterward.

I'd get to my destination faster and spend more time with the wife. Who cares about MPGs. You'll shut the engine off an hour sooner.

Aside from the Brabus edition, the Smart For Two could not achieve modern highway speeds as well as (I believe) a Scion IQ.

On a road trip, the longer i'm behind the wheel the faster I go.

Semi rigs are built for speed but they frequently don't slow down slow enough for sharp curves.

At very high speeds more damage is done when one looses control. That can happen if 2 vehicles accidentally touch. And that's how speed kills.

This is one of the reasons why speeds like this are a big safety issue. There are such poorly maintained cars on the road with bald, worn out and cracking tires, that at such sustained speeds, those tires will be popping like ballons.

Another issue is bringing the car to a stop from high speeds in reasonable distance. The neglected brakes on many of the cars I service is shocking to me. The steering wheel is about to vibrate itself off the steering rack and I'm only braking from 55mph. @ 70+ I'm shocked how more people aren't rear ended by these rolling rusted heaps.

All my cars are maintained to the utmost and can survive 100 laps at the track at any given time. (I have performance pads installed on all vehicles to increase braking performance over the stock setup which a lot of times is not able to handle the heat during spirited driving through the mountains, for example)

Meh. Come to New England. Nothing wrong with the left lane being the slow lane; or the rightmost lane being the fastest. After a while, you just get used it.

Try MA on I93S in the morn, specifically. Nothing like do 80+ in the breakdown lane during rush hour.

I'm willing to re-take driver education and test to qualify for 100+ MPH speed limit.

As mentioned by some posters, slower traffic should be on right lane all the times. Even I was a little faster than traffic and no one behind me, I always change to right lane after passing slower traffic, if there is room, leave left lane for faster drivers to pass (which is fairly rare).

There are many sections of Interstate of the South West have very light traffic passing through desert, the speed limit should be abolished all together. At those stretch of highway even at speed 90-100 MPH seems too slow.

This sounds like it would be well-suited for I-90 during the summer and during good weather. Most folks are already doing 70-80 mph during good weather. Might as well make it legal.

It would need better enforcement of the "slower traffic keep right" law on the books. Lots of folks ignore the posted signs along I-90, and make driving I-90 between Rochester and Buffalo a game of Dodgem.

I live in the area it's a private toll road between San antonio and Austin on the news they said it was built for 85 mph. Maybe they can keep slow drivers out of the left lane if not I would want a refund.
