I found a good deal on 76 super atf online dexron mercron for $55 for a 5 gallon container or $29 for a 12 quart case. Before I go ahead and purchase it I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on this atf. Is it comparable to valvoline castrol mobil etc?? It seems like a great price but I don't want to put an inferior product in my transmission either. Thanks

Is this it?
If So Im not sure how it compares to the rest. but it being from CONOCO, it should be a good product. As far as the price.. Im not sure but its about the price I have seen around the web

Its not a multi...

Yes that is the fluid I was considering purchasing. I was just wondering because I haven't found any feedback on the conoco phillips atf here. I usually use maxlife atf but the price difference is quite a bit more than the 76 brand. I was just wondering if anyone had any feedback they could give on it before I purchase it. Thanks

Hello, You can add 98 of your own cents to my opinion and make a dollar. Do not dump on me.

I feel this is the "good old cheap Dex/Merc" which is sold everywhere for $14 to $16 per gallon.
It goes as far as Dex III. I believe it's the case that for many GM vehicles, like my friend's 2003 S-10 Chevy, which had specced Dex III, the spec was raised to Dex IV via a service bulletin.

Doubtless it's a good product and good value/unit volume but it is for older vehicles.

What's the year, make and transmission of your vehicle?
Read the notice at the bottom of the page above where the heading reads "Features/Benifits". "Not recommended for vehicles requiring Dexron IV..." etc. tells the whole story.

Valvoline MaxLife (red jug) covers many vehicles which have outgrown Dex III.

I have had great success using the Wolf's Head Super Universal Synthetic Fluid found at the Amalie store. It covers all the Dex/Merc vintages as well as Toyota T-IV and JWS 3309 specs of newer units. Kira

Yah I would use it, but not 5 gallons at a time. Perfect for my old heaps. But maybe not for a newer car. Read the label.

Probably because retail distribution of it is very limited.

Like Kira asked,
Quote:
what vehicle and what year
?

If you are going to ask opinions, please supply some vehicle information.

It would be used in several vehicles I have that spec dexron-lll such as an 2000 buick lesabre and several other gm trucks with a th350 or th400 transmission from the 70's and 80's

For your years of vehicles and types of transmissions this ATF should work fine.

For that many vehicles you may want to purchase it in 5-gallon pails.

Thanks for everyone's input on my question. I'm going to try the 76 atf in my 2000 buick lesabre but I'm only going to purchase a case for now. The transmission is on its way out and Im just trying to get a few more months out of the car at this point. Does anyone have a recommendation on a high quality atf for my th350 and th400 transmissions that I have in my older chevy trucks. The transmissions work fine with no issues so I'm just looking to protect them the best I can. Thanks

any REDLINE ATF that is for your Truck or car.

Or get OEM.

A/C Delco for your GM and Motorcraft for your FORDs.

Go to dealer tell them what kind of car you have and get the correct ATF.

Or you can use the MAXX LIFE... Maxx Life is a Pure Synthetic and I hear some great things about it.

However Im more of a OEM guy when it comes to a transmission however Im really starting to like REDLINE.
