What synthetic oil would you run for a 5-6500k oci with a wix filter?

Your driving conditions consist of 40 miles of local/city stop and go round trip traffic daily and once or twice a month you make a 150 mile round trip drive.

Why a Wix filter ? That Fram Ultra is built pretty stout and can go 10K. I've seen pictures in the oil filter section of Fram Ultras with more than 10K on them and they look great even with more than 10K on them.

I'm saying wix because Fram ultra is a 10-15k filter and it's a 5k-6500 oci

I've used wix before in the past and I trust their reliability. I'm trying to decide on castrol edge or PP for a 5k-6500k oci under the driving conditions listed above

The cheapest that I could find; i.e. any synthetic is capable of a 6.5K OCI under those conditions. Plenty of filters that can handle that OCI as well.

Either one would work fine, but if price is equal I would probably choose PP. Castrol are good oils, but I think Pennzoil is just a little bit better. I don't know about 0W20, but for 5W30 Pennzoil has better NOACK, viscosity index, and CCS #. I personally don't think Castrol uses the best base oils.

^ Agree.

I use Napa Silver (basic Wix) for 5k OCIs, and Napa Gold (Regular Wix) for 7.5k OCIs on two different vehicles, neither "short tripped" - which yours is not given a 20 mile each-way commute. Excellent results over several years.

I run M1 HM, but if on sale use PP. Both are great.

I thought you believed that Wix, particularly the XP, was the one and only. And, you know you'll never go 10,000 miles, so if it catastrophically fails at 7,500 miles every time, you'd never know it.

LOL... You're golden, Garak.

NavyVet88, if you aren't aware... look at Garak's signature.

Anywho... There's no reason to run full synthetic for less than 7k. If you're planning on running 5 to 6.5k, then use either conventional or semi-syn/syn-blend.

I'll never go 10,000 miles on the oil, but I'm planning on running the Ultra to 5000 miles and then cutting it open. If it looks good, then maybe 6000 miles on the next filter. Maybe do 1000 mile increments until I get to 10,000. In the meantime, the oil will still get changed somewhere between 2500 and 3500.

Why not just spend the extra dollar or two and get the best filter available?

M1, synthetic Purolator, Napa gold, Fram ultra. Etc.

I just like to have a little in reserve.....can't hurt.

Why run a Synthetic for 5k OCI's? Heck, even Motorcraft 5w-20 in the Red Jug at Walmart will easily go 7500-10k miles and it's semi-synthetic
Just run Mobil 5000 or 7500 and a filter of your choice..

I like PP as well over castrol. You should be able to extend your OCI beyond 6K.

Super tech. I have tested ST vs Amsoil, M1 and VWB at 5000 miles and all the UOAs were very close.
