Just got back from walmart and they are selling new 5.5 quart bonus bottles for $11.79. Are they really trying to confuse people by making them measure instead of dumping the whole thing in or are they trying to tell us its okay to run a little extra oil? I wonder.

Excellent! I run a 1/2 to a full quart over anyway.

While you may not care about your expensive emission control system, others may.

I think it's a good idea. If you have a 5 quart sump and need to top it off, you won't have to buy an additional quart.

My Brothers Chrysler New Yorker takes 5.5 quarts, so I buy the Castrol GTX 5.5 at Pep Boys, I could not believe my luck the first time I saw the jug.

Are you being serious?

If the oil level in the sump gets too high, the crank will hit the oil and beat it into a froth, which is then sucked into the intake manifold. When oil gets burned in considerable quantities, the metallic additives can foul O2 sensors and the cat. Besides, aerated oil suffers from increased oxidation, doesn't make a good lube, and isn't easily pumped. Depending on the design of your engine, overfilling half a quart may or may not be safe.

Oh I see ...

Not a problem with the Buick; the counterweights clear the top of the oil pool just fine.

That means you are not putting in enough oil -- if you want to make froth!
