When you are done with the MMO, I'd personally start running M1 AFE 0w30 in it. Been doing some good cleaning for me, which you can see in my oil filter, posted in the oil filter section.
update
i have maybe 300 miles on the mmo now with that trip to dallas and all the holiday driving. i can see the varnish starting to dissipate. my oil still looks clean on the stick tho
so im almost 2k into this oci with mmo, thanks to my daily 140 mile round trip to work, and i still see varnish in the engine but the mmo is breaking black stuff up.(i drained a qt from the pan to look at) the problem is its just taking too long!!! so i just ordered my first can of KREEN!!... anyone know how to use it?? oil recommendations for using KREEN??
Shoot Trav a PM, he's used quite a bit of Kreen, he might have outlined the directions in a thread. It works pretty fast, and is the product to grab if you're in a hurry!
so i went ahead and changed my oil today in preparation of the kreen that is in the mail. when i inspected the filter i found ALOT of very small black specs this time. i suspect its carbon from the feel and the way it breaks up between my fingers.
i went with PU 5w30 this time and i plan on adding the kreen at 2 or 3k and running a 5k oci. i will post any results

That's a good sign. It confirms both that the deposit buildup is present, and that the combination of oil and MMO you used has loosened and suspended at least some of it. Your plan sounds good and the PU, particularly with the Kreen later, should do a nice job of finishing the cleanup.
Make sure to get the free Kroil trial deal, best penetrating oil on the market bar non.
On the order form they ask for a "company" just give them the name of the company you work for and use your own name and address,no problem at all.
You can put it in right away then again at 2,500 if you want do a 5 k OC, Ideal would be 16oz every 1K but twice in the OC cycle should work fine.No problems running this product a whole OCI.
Yep the advertising is really nostalgic looking,i sorta like it.
ok so i went ahead and added it today. i have around 6 hundred miles on the oil. every time i have the hood up i look in the oil hole with a flashlight and this time i noticed where the timing gear (phaser) slings oil on the engine it is silver now so i think im doing some good. but i started it up and looked in and saw that the spots with the thickest build up just get a drop or two of oil splashed on them every now and then. i think it will take a while before those spots are clean, if ever. and because those spots are mainly the only thing i can see with out pulling the valve cover i guess i have no real clue as to the condition of the rest of the engine with out pulling the valvecover.... i wounder how much gaskets cost.
for all i know the rest of the engine could be squeaky clean. i need to know more and i would like to have before and after pics to show. im really thinking of tearing the cover off before i put any miles on the kreen for a reference and doing it again after the oci.
not really an update but after my commute today i looked in to see if anything had changed and the fumes about knocked me out!! that is some strong stuff. 150 miles on the kreen and the oil still looks new.
i wont be buying gaskets they are 60 bucks. ill get some filter pics tho
I would choose an oil with an ester base, many better motorcycle oils use ester base, Klotz, Redline, certain Mystik off road oils. Esters have high cleaning properties, dino some and PAO none. M 1 high mileage and pennzoil ultra advertise to clean out deposits also.
Mobil 1 HM oils are really great oils that have very strong add packs and offer superior cleaning... I would think they would work very well for your application.

take some pics, you can get a really good shot of the oil fill on that one. my neighbor has the 2 valve and his has HEAVY varnish. i dumped a qt of mmo in and he almost freaked out lol. he'll get over it.
