5-30 syn vs speced 5-20 syn oil for f250 5.4 2005?

why wouldn't it? little more viscosity when hot, same viscosity when cold

It'll be fine, I run 0w40, 5w30, 5w40 and 10w40 in my 04 Expedition with the 5.4 2valve just fine. My mechanic wants me to run 15w40 in it, may try it next oil change as I found some clearance chevron delo 15W40 synthetic

I ran 5w30 in a 2007 f350 3V 5.4 for over 195k miles, including lots of heavy cross country trailer pulling.

I speculate the high quality 5w30 I used, and oil changes at 3k or less, were the reasons I never had the very common timing chain and related issues.

Go use that 5w30- you will be making a great move.

My 5.4 powered expedition has gone a ton of miles on 5w-30. There are over 260k miles on it and no VVT noises or timing chain slap. These things love 5w-30. There's zero down side and probably reduced wear on these problematic motors with thicker oil.
