Thanks for the pic. Where did you spot it? Did you happen to look inside and see if it had the Hoffman shift knob with the thin blue line around it's circumference?
I saw this pic on some random Internet site. I love the small window bugs. A split window rocks!
 
That’s a beauty. A guy up the street from me is driving an unrestored, newer example. It’s rough, with different coloured panels, and the interior doesn’t look much better, but he says it’s a fun car to drive.

30 years ago the bugs were everywhere up here but now I rarely see them. Same with the buses.
 
The first Type1 ( beetle ) wasn’t imported into the U.S. until 1949, for a total of two that year. The Wolfsburg plant was destroyed during WWll and it took a few years to rebuild it.
 
An older gentleman in our neighborhood drives a mid-60's off white bug with a rack and short 'board. It's really clean. He putts around all over the place. Pretty dang cool...
