I'm changing the motor oil in my ATV. I'm using 4 stroke Ester based synthetic motorcycle oil. I accidentally spilled 1 quart during the change(there's $15 I'll never see again). I have a quart of Penzoil full synthetic automobile oil. Will it damage my engine if I mix it with the Ester based synthetic motorcycle oil? The Penzoil bottle says it's "compatible with all oils". Before I add it, I just wanted to be sure. I'm leaving for a 3 day, 200 mile/day ride and wouldn't want to damage the engine 100 miles from camp. Thanks for any advice.

What grade is the Pennzoil? If it is 5w30, 10w30 or says energy conserving or resource conserving I wouldn't use it because of the wet clutch.

10w30. It doesn't say energy conserving or resource conserving. I guess when in doubt, I should take a ride to the cycle shop before I leave tomorrow afternoon and get the 10w40 motorcycle oil. With last minute preparations, I was hoping to save the trip. Thanks for the advice.

Mix it, it will be fine. Have a Great Ride

I agree...Jaso MA is the way, too many friction modifiers in the above oil.

While on an oil basis Ill bet it is fine, the adds may not be exactly compatible with your application, so Id go and get the right oil and use it.

A day before a 200 mile ride isnt the time to do experimenting.

My ATV takes 4 quarts, mixing 1 quart pennzoil with 3 quarts Motul will NOT hurt anything, the clutch will not slip . Have a fun ride. its just oil...

Not all atvs hold 4 quarts, even if it did I would just stop somewhere along the way and get a quart of 10w40 or 15w40.

if it were me...

1) if time allowed go get the same stuff you spilled

2) if time constrained, get an oil that is MA or MA2 certified/equivalent or Shell Rotella 15w40 dino or Rotella 5w-40 synthetic which are MA equivalent
