My splurge for this spring is going to be a 400cc bike. Savings in gas, and additional fun :)

I hate to burst your bubble, but you won't save any money by buying a motorcycle.

Amount paid for the motorcycle + maintenance (tires etc...) + ride gear= net loss

Ask me how I know.

Cycles are a money pit. But they sure FUN.

The price of gas can be set to whatever the central bankster wants it to be. The direction it goes depends on if the children of the people in power have puts or calls in their trust accounts.

Yep... they are just preparing us to be gouged even more. The oil companies are only guaranteeing that their guy won't be elected.

Wonder how long it'll be before the automotive culture in the U.S. makes a serious change. You don't seen roads full of pickups and SUVs in Europe...it's all tiny hatchbacks with a few larger sedans mixed in. I'm very curious if that's how our automotive landscape will look before long.

Oh, I know... but it'll be a source of joy as well. And, I'm paying $500 cash for the bike, with new tires on it. That should hold me over on the maintenance front for a little while, anyway.

Funny how most people consider the oil companies evil, yet they are the same ones raking in the big divdends on their mutual funds which are the oil and insurance companies we despise. There is no Mr. Sopus living on the hill in a mansion, like Mr. Potter, the oil companies have stockholders, who are making money off them, making money. sort of a vicious circle huh? The Gas prices are going to hurt, not a political statement here, but I think instead of the stimulus package, they put together, the goverment would have been much better off, suspending the gas tax for 6 months, to get people moving and traveling and spending, it would have got more of the response in the econmy they are looking for. As long as people keep spending their money at the pump, they have little to spend elsewhere, and most are going to panic and save the money or pay off already inquired debt.

I'm amazed at how few people, especially the politicians, realize this.

I agree. People often bring up the fact that gas is something like $8/gallon in europe to make ours sound cheap. The reality is that gas costs the same almost everywhere. The difference is simply taxes, which has nothing to do with the cost of oil.

Personally, I'm giving strong thought into turning my old Jeep into a plug in hybrid. I will NOT drive a car. But all electric engine accessories, and an electric motor installed on the front differential, could double my gas mileage. Even at $4 though, I don't think it would make economic sense for me due to the cost of electric motors and batteries, thanks to the rise in copper and lead.

Everthing is fairly priced. If it weren't it couldn't possibly sell. The idea of permanent growth cycle on a FINITE planet, to me anyway, has always been absurd! We were warned in 1973 and did absolutely nothing about this, except the exact wrong thing.

Ding, Ding, Dong, Ding.

I drive a 22MPG premium fuel pig, Subaru WRX wagon that I absolutely love to drive.

Mileage since last oil change Jan 2 2007, 835 miles. I am thankful my job and life mostly is close by or so easy to use mail or mail order.

That's not true. People HAVE to buy gas no matter what the price is, that's just a fact of life in the US.
