Really 400K wow, now your definitely not a troll. Of course what you say directly contradicts some of your other recent posts. I personally finds your incessant number of posts funny and amusing. I hope you don't get banned again, but I'm sure the countdown had begun.

BTW Jay Leno owns multiple cars. Who says normal cant do the same? I really dislike certain Americans who say, "You're not allowed to own more than two cars!"

LOL. It's kinda funny watching ye say "no you're not allowed" as if this were Soviet Russia

And I consider "troll" an insult just like "a-hole" is an insult. Neither word belongs in the vocabulary of two adults have a friendly conversation. Leave the insults behind (in your teen years). IMHO

OP,
first you have no idea what was or not in soviet Russia or any of the satellites...

now back to your usual topic: there is a guy in CA that imports small form cars from Russia and coverts them to electric.
also if i read well, there are some small firms also in CA in the "convert small/light classic cars to electric" business
since you're of some tech background, can you research a bit with any of them if any matched the hybrid performance/pricetag you're after ?
maybe some they have what you need in a smaller run than the Honda Insight you just bought...
also since you are unemployed/in vacation, can you go a bit south and see what they have there in therms of light/small eco cars? they may not be USA regulations ready, but makes for some good/interesting drives...

BTW I apologize if I offended anyone..... . That was not my intent. I just think this is a pretty car especially for it low price.

I'd like to put a Lupo 3L (80mpg) engine in the insight. It'd probably get 100 mpg at 55 miles/hour. Another idea I had was to convert a Prius or Civic Hybrid to a 3 cylinder (using insight engine). It would get 70 mpg at similar speed. Those kinds of projects would be expensive thoigh.

If my memory serves me right, they are a few nuts that put a 1 L diesel from a Kubota...
now about expensive: you are in one of the best locations in the country to find out at least about the cost.
but bragging about "I have an Insight that does DOUBLE the factory MPG" would be AWESOME and make you the hero of MPG/hyper-milers community.

Yeah well I like the Fiesta and the low cost ($14 k). To me it's a typical sedan-shaped car (shrug). Not offensive at all, and with chrome grill which is a rarity in today's "stick plastic on the front" styling.

BTW the Focus will probably get the chrome grill in August 2014, as part of Ford's across-the-line upgrade.

How tall / heavy are you? When I test drove one, I was 220 pounds and (am still) 5'10'' tall. I could barely get my leg under the steering wheel to drive it and I couldn't even fit in the back seat.

The Fiesta is one of my favorite sub compacts, the reason why is likely because this car was never originally intended to be sold in the USA, and designed mostly for Europe. Even the lowly S spec sedan handles excellently, and the general quality feels like it is a class above it. Of course the price is very reasonable as well for a well equipped version with a manual transmission which would be my choice. While the Focus is nice too, it is too big, too filled with technology, and it is pretty pricey even with the base model.

So are we talking about Chevyboy14, carnoobie, or...GHT??? LOL

While they were trollish, it was entertaining to see the posts.
I actually miss them and wish they would be invited back on a restricted basis.

The front end looks like an alien fish.

The reason fish have their shape is because of millions of years evolving to be aerodynamic (or more properly: hydrodynamic). It makes sense cars will look more-and-more like things from nature as they try to reduce resistance

Had one of the original Fiesta S, and it was a great car: happened to be the actual car the magazines tested back in 1978: bought it from the son of HotRod's "Stroker McGurk". I always thought it had been "breathed on" or blueprinted from the factory because it really ran well. Cruised @ 100 mph on the way to the beach with two dogs in the back, pretty sure it got close to 35 mpg, but who cared in those days?

Cheers!

p.s. 2nd Generation was a dud!

The 1.0 liter 3 cylinder version of this car has regenerative braking. I guess they dump the electricity into the 12 volt battery? I don't see how that can hold the full energy generated by braking.

Glad to see I am not the only one in the US that really had a liking for the original MKI Fiesta. I was not even driving age when I first saw the Fiesta in a dealership that my folks were at looking for their next new car in 1979. Of course my parents were looking at "family" sedans like the Granada and Fairmont...but I was totally intrigued by the little German Ford that was different than most other cars in the US at the time and certainly not like any domestic Ford. It was a stick as well, and luckily my Dad caved into my pleadings and took a test drive in it. I had a great time, the salesmen went along but let the car sell itself. It really did, as Dad said he would have bought it if he didn't have two children and a wife that didn't know how to drive stick.

Of course Ford stopped selling the Fiesta in 1981 as it introduced the LOL "world car" the Escort to the US, except the car the USA got was NOTHING AT ALL like the European Escort, and was a piece of [censored], and nothing more than a shrunken mid-size domestic.

If they were selling the MKI new today I would gladly buy one.

I like the current Fiesta but it isn't anything like the original. Which was basic, inexpensive to buy, cheap to maintain, fun to drive with outstanding MPGs.
