What's the deal? Nobody seems to have 380 in stock. All other calibers are available. What's the problem with 380?

I dunno, I have been trying to get .380 for a year for my PPK. Cannot find it on the shelves. Fortunately, I work at a Sheriff's Office and can trade the Deputies for it. I am a computer tech/In car video specialist, so I do off-duty personal computer repair for a box of 380. If I can't get any .380, then I just carry my Detonics .45

I will look into why 380 is so hard to find, maybe people are stocking up on it. I have a buddy that reloads, maybe I can get you some reloads (his brass is only one-time fired and he is a former Police Officer and has been reloading a long time).

After decades of being inferior for self-defense, the .380 is now the new darling of the shooting world. There is a plethora of new .380 auto pistols on the market from most of your major manufacturer's. New bullet designs (such as Speer Gold Dot) make the .380 a somewhat more viable choice for self-defense. Combine this with the compact design of the .380 pistol and you have a winning combination. With ammo hoarding still up, .380 is probably hard to find.

Otis has it pretty much right, after years and years of little to no demand for the round a few gunmakers, in an attempt to bolster sales, have "resurrected" this anemic round and the gun rags, being slaves to the gunmakers, are adding their hype.

So, what you have is the few rounds left on the shelves being scarfed up and a pause until the ammo makers can catch up with the new demand propped up by the gunmakers and the gun rags.

They had to move to plan B when the 327 mag didn't take hold IMO.

Tremo,

The last time I went to my local Turner's Outdoorsman they has allot of 380 ACP but it sure was expensive to buy. I'd rather but 9MM myself or get a revolver in 38 special assuming you want ammo for your house gun.

Yep 380 ammo is hard to find. I love my little 380 pistol and hopefully some of the ammo I have on back order will make it here before to long.

Thanks guys. I inherited a Walther PPK/S from Dad when he passed, so I've had it now for more than 20 years. Formerly, 380 ammo was easy to get, and cost about $15 or so for a box of 50. Now.........????

I've seen some shops trying to sell boxes of 50 rounds at over $30 now. F-that. Robbery.

I know the 380 isn't such a powerful round but it's the gun I have so be it. I'm looking for some reliable FMJ stuff to use in quantity at the firing range, and some nasty as possible hollow points for self defense.

I'd like to get a Springfield 1911 but the wife would kill me if I did.

Cheaperthandirt has some DRT in stock but I read too many reviews of about 15% won't fire, so in my book those become useless.

I don't understand the knee-jerk hoarding either. Fanatics at work. The gun control crowd has been pretty quiet for the last year, and I really don't expect that to change. Hoarding is not needed. [censored], even 22 rimfires are hard to find.

The gun control crowd is quiet because they are too busy putting together drafts for an executive order to go forth with their hopey changey thing. They haven't forgotten about guns. They're just too busy pushing emissions, windmills, electric cars, solar panels, bankrupting US....

380 is a popular round so most shops sell out of the 'quality' ammo quickly. Try finding quality specific .32acp!

You want quality, you'll have to pay for it.
Its also time that everyone start learning the art of reloading.

Re the "change thing", recall the majority of the people wanted change from the past 8 years of lies and overspending, hence the election outcome. You call running 2 wars on supplemental spending bills outside the budget sound financial policy? Jeez....

Since when did 380 become so popular? Sheesh, 2 years ago 380 ammp was available all over the place.

Ruger pretty much revived it with the LCP and LCR.

Its my understanding that .380 is made/loaded on the same machines as the 9mm. If you have orders for 1 billion 9mm and orders for 2 million .380, guess what gets priority. Also 9mm is one of our military rounds.

This along with the increase in demand because of all the new .380 autos, and also the hoarding on in the gun owners community we have a perfect storm.
