I cannot find it right now, but that dyno sheet joke for a BIG single GTE is also quite funny (you know the one that stays WWAAAYYY down on power/torque until the hairdryer comes alive at 8000+ revs, and then it spikes off the top of the page!
lol.gif
).

The turbo mustang guys had a shirt that on the front said wanna roll race? and on the back and a supra dyno that started at 100 hp, then went up, did a loop, and went off the top of the map.

But the same horsepower with 20 psi that some engines need with 40 psi is insane. These big inch turbo V-8s are somewhat detuned and have a lot more left in them.

Yes, this is what the GTE worshippers seem to forget, that despite their claims to the indestructibility of that block/head, when one runs 50+ lbs. of boost (resulting in their high dyno queen numbers for a given displacement) through ANYTHING, one is on the ragged edge of catastrophe, regardless of 'supporting mods'.

Which is why all the high HP European cars are going to AWD. You can only put so much HP down to the rear wheels.

Here's another example. This engine is very detuned; it engine dynoed at 3,100 hp. 2,000 + hp at the rear tires, and street legal to boot! Was a drag week contestant where they had to drive from track to track over the span of a week and could not put the car on a trailer. Instead, they towed a trailer with all their parts!

Lean it out, up the boost, advance the timing and get the tune more sporty and it probably would knock on the door of 4,000 hp.

Few things flatter than the torque curve of a well set up Forced Induction motor.

I just read of one with peak torque starting at 1250 rpm!

ABSOLUTELY!!

But, that is NOT the case with a 3.0-(stroked)3.4 liter GTE with a single, house sized, snail attached to the front of it!

Hahaha, I agree. I see these hack jobs at the strip and I always tell my friends to stand back as they slowly build boost...

Not necessarily. Offhand, a Cummins 5.9 is barely breaking a sweat at 50psi. Heck, some of the competition sledpullers run those with 150psi!

Don't tell Larry Larson that! He's managing just fine with 2000+! (As in: 6.95@209MPH after 1000+ street miles!)

While certainly true (and totally awesome!), there's no way it'll handle the twisties like those Euro cars. After all, it wasn't meant to. It was meant to go full tilt boogie in one direction...

Yeah, and some those sled pullers take about a week to build a big enough fire in that beast to spoil the turbo. That's if it doesn't blow itself out first. But it's still pretty darned amazing what they can do with one.

Yep, I can't tell you how many "boosted wonders" will show up at an HPDE and then scatter parts/oil/coolant all over the track after a couple of laps.

Some of them are really quick, but SUSTAINED high output would quickly kill them.

Did you not read what I posted?! I saw a 1000HP Ram (more, actually, but he pegged the dyno) that was a DAILY DRIVEN TRUCK that even pulled a trailer! Larry Larson's Nova ran 6.95 at the last day of Drag Week after more than 1000 street miles!

yep every time i see a so called race car blow up. it reminds what my dad said about race cars. a real race car is a SYSTEM, not just a cam and carb. see there i didnt say anything about a brand name.

Do both of these examples use ALL 50+ lbs. (or whatever their MAX is) of boost ALL of the time on the street, even sans pure race fuel??

Again, I was speaking more to the 'wondrous' beloved Supra's GTE longblock at 3.0-3.4 liter displacement, NOT diesels, or built for boost mountain motors.
