I'm not a Toyota fan, but I definitely think they should have skipped a BMW partnership and built on their own car with a Yamaha built performance engine as they have in the past.

At double the price point? I'm sure they'd sell them (saracasm).

Supra-fanyboys still can't comprehend that this new Supra would've never happened without the BMW tie-up. Btw...The Z4 would not have been built either. Development costs are too high.

They call the German fan boys something else but this is a family site so I'll leave it at that.

They could always develop it on Camry platform, little bit of Subaru, and you get ultimate 30mph car in left lane.

Toyota could have developed it on the Lexus IS platform, and that is what they should have done IMO. They could have even used the 417hp 5.0L V/8, that would have made a fun car.
Toyota loyalists are not going to buy a BMW, so it's fate is sealed even as it has just hit the market.

Ya, then they'd complain about the lack of an I6 and it would still be too expensive not to mention canabalize IS-F sales.

It would have been a worse car in every way.

They could. Difference would be upward of 600lbs.

But, but, you would get signature Lexus: RWD with understeer on par with Audi.
If that does not invoke original Supra, I am not sure what it does!

And no steering feel.

You mean the same loyalists that bought Toyota sporty models in such great numbers that Toyota stopped making all of them?

It's hard to sell anything sporty when your customer base thinks a Camry V6 is a sports car.

And Aisin 8 speed. RC500 packs almost 700lbs more than BMW M3.

You mean like the idiot owners who like their Camrys because they are "grounded to the ground?"

Absolutely, The high end car market can support a more expensive Supra assuming it's actually something special. I'd argue the version they built/share will sell even less. Depreciation will also likely be higher than normal as it's a BMW.

It is less car and cost as much as a Corvette or Shelby GT350. Unless one wants a BMW with a Toyota Emblem it's just not competitive from a price/performance standpoint with the domestic sports cars that are just as good or better.

1. Highly doubt Toyota will get S58 engine. But who knows.
2. Are domestic cars better? Japanese and German taxpayers did not bail out their companies. OK, I take that back, German taxpayers did help bailout GM.
