2018 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3L Battery Question

Any idea why GM would place that fuse block on top of the battery? Obviously I have never seen that type of setup.
They are fusible links to the hot side of the battery. In the event of an overdraw of current, they should theoretically pop before burning up multiple circuits. Makes sense they are this close to the battery "kinda in the open" to replace if necessary.

Follow the wires. I bet on this particular model the battery goes in before the powertrain, so they lift the engine, tranny, and wiring harness up as one unit at the factory. Then they plug a few things in, including flopping this fusebox over onto the battery.
