2017 Hilander v-6; Correct oil capacity?

After oil and filter change dip stick shoes about 1/2 qt low after adding 6 qts. Manual calls for 5.8 qts. It's a 2017 Toyota Highlander V6. Which is Do I trust as correct, the manual or the dip stick?

It wouldn't surprise me if it needs 6.5qts. How does your manual state how to check the oil level?

In my experience with those engines the dipstick shows a half low on one side and full on the other. 6 should be good.

Did you check how much oil came out? Where was it on dipstick before drain?

Mine is like that too. One side is 1/2, other full.

I can't speak for all manufactures, but in the case of Ford and Nissan, the manuals basically stated that the listed capacity was for approximation purposes only, and the ultimate guide was the dipstick. I would suggest checking your owner's manual for similar language.

Go by the dipstick. If the angle of the engine was such that more oil drained out than normal, it will take more back in.
