My Explorer is having weird issues with my key fob. Vehicle is push-to-start, and also senses when you approach and will unlock when you touch the handle. All of that works fine. What is becoming more and more sporadic are the lock/unlock buttons on the fob. Like a third of the time, they don’t work. But I’ll have the key on me, and the approach detection always works and the vehicle always detects the key to start. It’s not a low battery issue, as the vehicle will sense that and tell you on the screen (had that happen before). Any ideas?

The microswitches in the fob or their membrane sealing them has become worn. The systems that work have no mechanical moving parts in the keyfob, whereas the actual buttons do. It's wearing out.

Does it look kinda like the key pictured, focus more on the shape more than the number of buttons? There are little pieces of rubber under the buttons that activate the switch that break. CAREFULLY open it up and you can glue them back in place

The switches could also be dirty/contaminated and not making good contact. Depends on the construction...some are push buttons, some are domed...
