Looking at a 2016 Dodge Caravan at an auction. Government vehicle. About 100k miles, bad transmission (says very noisy when in gear and seems like it shifts very poorly), check engine light on, tire pressure light on. Right now with a couple days left on auction it's at about $220.

What's a transmission replacement/rebuild cost? $4k? $5k?

What's the max price you'd pay for it?

Up here (Canadian Prairies), a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan in good shape with c. 160,000 km would sell for about C$12K.

If one came up for C$1,000 with a bad transmission, it would definitely be worth investing in a rebuild.

Obviously our used-car prices remain very high.

It looks like prices have returned to pre-COVID levels in the U.S. - not so here.

Call your local transmission shops and get quotes. Your prices will vary.

I already have a 2014, I wouldnt sell it for less than $10k.

Get a 4-cylinder Sienna instead. They were made in 2011-2012. (the new one is a 4-cyl hybrid but much more expensive)
