I noticed some of the newer locations I searched, like a recently opened Aldi, weren't on the results page under points of interest. Is this where the map data is stored and is it from 2015? And why are people still buying this old card? Over 30 have been sold on Ebay recently,

Did you take the A6 card out of the car ? If so, yes, that's your map data. You can replace it with a newer version (A14). There's nothing wrong with older versions and like you mention, if you search for "Aldi", it doesn't show up but if you know the address, it will still route you there.
I took it out to see what it was and then put it back. No I don't know the address but for twenty bucks its a no brainer if it works.
