The owners manual calls for 10k oil changes and I wanted to know if anyone else is following this or should I change at 5k. I just got my 20k Service and my sticker says 10k or 1 year. This is a turbo charged engine.

The sump is 5 quarts and my average trip is about 10 miles one way (work.) The factory fill is Castrol 5w40 full syn.

What would you do?

I have the same car. I've been doing 7k changes so far to get all the break in material out. I'm going to be switching to 10k probably on my next OCI. If you use a recommended oil, it can handle the 10k no problem. Unless you have a lot of short trips or city driving, 10k should be a breeze.

I'm a fan of early oil change in a new engine. IMO 1000 is not too early, and the filter gets changed along with it.

I have a 3.0T VW engine and I do 12,000 mile OCI's with Royal Purple oil. I even have a UOA posted which included 4 dyno runs and countless 1/4 mile drags with 12,000 miles and came back just fine.

I've a 16 golf wagon with that 1.8t and i intend to change oil every 5k and the filter on the 10k marks. Overkill? Yes. Not having to worry about fuel dilution or timing chain wear from long OCI? worth it.

You really need to look up the correct oil capacity for your particular Jetta. I think it holds more than 5 quarts.

I have a 2014 Passat with the same motor. It holds 5.6 quarts. I have an oil extractor and change the oil only at 6 months and the oil and filter at 12 months. Direct injection and a turbo gotta be hard on the oil. Plus, this Passat sees many many short trips.
