Out of 6 VWs I've owned in the last 10 ish years, the 4 built at Wolfsburg only needed tyres, breaks etc. The 1 built at Karmann was much the same, tyres brakes, oil changes etc.
The 1 VW I owned that was built in Spain (10 years younger than the youngest of the other 5) had fit and finish issues, wiring issues, au numerous other niggly little problems.

I'm glad somebody mentioned the Mexico plant before I did, but that is the root cause of this issue.
VWAG is a company who licenses it's tech. to VWOA. VWOA then contract the construction to a plant n Mexico notorious for its inconsistency.

A franchise is typically more concerned with profit than anything else, and paying a good wage to a competent worker will reduce their margin.

End result is American consumers being sold cr@ppily built, disposable goods with a respected badge on the front.
