i know there is a tsb out there saying run only 5w-20 but i have yet to see a hemi that doesnt tick with the stuff in it. does mds really go to pieces if running a quality 5-30.

My wife's '06 doesn't tick

I run M1 AFE 0w-20 in it.

My 2014 Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI runs just fine on QSUD 0w-20. Engine is quiet as can be. No HEMI tick so far with just under 15k.

your wife must have a rare hemi lol. They all have lifter noise from what i hear, but again ive only listened really to like 2013 and up. anything with mds has the tick typically. some guys say 5-30 quiets it down, but others say it screws up the mds system.

0W30 or 5W30 won't harm anything.

my 2013 runs pretty well on 5w20 M1. I'll be doing on UOA on it when I change it this weekend (5k miles, maybe early but wanna UOA and see). I've seen the same reports of issues with MDS if not using 5w20. I have a warranty for another 7 years 70k miles, so I'll be using 5w20.

It runs quiet on it, at 32k miles. One issue I had with MDS was I could feel it kick on and off. Turns out, changing the spark plugs made that completely go away. They're supposed to be changed at 30k miles (I changed mine at 29k). Of course you might not have this issue as I think 2014 and up are 100k mile interval plugs.

yea but the plugs didnt change so that might tell you something there to lol. MDS is definately not as smooth as the GM multidisplacement system.

We have a 6.1 with no MDS and a 5.7 with. No ticking here. The 6.1 gets 0w-40 and the 5.7 gets 0w-20. 110k miles on the 6.1 and 32k miles on the 5.7.

Absolutely fine here, lovin' them Hemis...

dont get me wrong i like the car. The hemi just isnt an LS, from a performance potential perspective the aftermarket hasnt caught up yet. The charger is a really nice car though with a lot of tech

I think the plugs did change in 2014, to platinum where the 2013 and before were copper.

i think you can. its just way more expensive, then it seems the vvt means little cams and not much for hp gains compared to the LS world. i guess i was spoiled lol, but then GM quit building anything id like to drive daily.

It disables in Tow/Haul mode, but also if you get a tuner. So its like $3-400 to disable it. I agree that it is probably pretty pointless, my jeep gets like 15 city / 22 highway.

when i say disable i mean through the junk lifters in the trash. first thing i did with my g8 but it also had an ERL built 434inch stroker in it making 521whp on a stingy dyno on motor lol. so the whole charger thing feels like i stole grandmas luxury car and it happens to have a bit of pep

Should have bought the Chevy SS. Seems like you are wishing your car was a GM.

I run 0w-30, 5w30 and 10w30 in my 15 wk2, no problem.

Mine is quiet! no cels for mds, 2011 upfitters book for squads allows 10w30 for police work, what is that telling you!

I run 5w30 QSUD in my 15 Ram Hemi. Used to have the occasional start up tick. That seemed to go away after 10k on good synthetic oil. No MDS issues here

I guess my buddy Lou's 10 second magnum just can't run with the Chevies...
