2013 Civic

I know. We can argue the virtues of cloth/vinyl/"leather" and its value or longevity until were blue in the face. Obviously some want it and like it. That's that. I personally see no redeeming virtue over the leatherette found in many cars, and Ive never had bad cloth besides the cloth in our integra... The only car that had a tear. But that is for another thread. Were going to pursue and buy what we like.

To me, it is still funny to see it in an econobox. That's all.

The 13 civic has nice lines on the outside, and I wouldnt mind an Si if I ever got a replacement for my 91 BMW.

That interior looks far more grown-up than the old Civic. More suitable for practical folks who want a fuel-sipper that looks more "conventional" instead of the "spaceship" or "kid's toy" themes those cars have usually carried.

Eww on the front end. It's like somebody took the Elantra's front end and straightened some of the curves. Not a fan of the super-curvy look on the Elantra, and not a fan of it here. Nice derriere, though!

Meh - not a fan of any of the cab-forward Civics. Now they've added (whatever its called) glass near the side-view mirrors ala Fit? I've never found the Civic appealing, though. Its an appliance. Bought a used one for the mpg and reliability. Drives like an [slow] appliance.
They're good at what they're designed for, though.

The rear exterior looks good. The interior isn't much of a change from the 2012s except for what is to be perceived as "better" materials. Will have to look at one in person to truly judge.

I hear ya. And me neither. Problem is, leatherette isn't found in very many cars. None that I would shop offer it. If they'd offer it, I'd buy it. Even if it were more expensive than genuine leather, I'd buy it.

When I buy leather seats, I'm not buying into the leather. I'm buying out of the cloth.

If I had a non-cloth option that wasn't genuine leather, that'd be great by me.

Give me cloth any day! It's great that we have choices though, I don't think the Civic is being offered with only leather, so it ends up being simply more choices for the consumer.

I prefer cloth as well - it doesn't feel as cold in the winter and doesn't feel as hot during summer. But if I was driving little kids around, leather/pleather would have been preferable due to ease of cleaning.

Wish I could see the front, but I think I like it.

The problem with cloth is that manufacturers keep cheapening it and they feel thin instead of plush. And some use the neoprene stuff and it just doesn't feel or look good.

I'll take the nice velour seats of the late 80's and early 90's over leather or leatherette any day. Sadly as soon as you start adding any options, you have to add leather to get any of the goodies.

I hate the way they package options...

It is my understanding that elsewhere, they arent as lumped.

We already had the leather discussion awhile ago; back then I said I liked it (still do, for a number of reasons). At least I like the leather in my VW, which is still fine after 8 years / 266kmiles--I'm sure I'd dislike cheap leather.

Now, I realize a Jetta doesn't quite qualify as an econobox; but as one who drives about an hour to work, I must admit to wanting more than a penalty box for the commute. Not saying I have to have leather for that, but I'm one of the few who do want something of a "premium" econobox--which I think a VW Jetta is (or was).

Did you click on the link?

I missed it. Probably didn't have my glasses on.

It's like a baby Accord

A good thing. Market is offering something I always disliked in the smaller efficient car market prior, lack of premium interiors. I like leather with kids much better than cloth.

But the civic isnt a premium car...

True. But leather gives some people are warm fuzzy feeling inside. Gives the Civic an image of not being an econobox. Not everyone can afford a BMW, Benz, Audi, Infinity, Lexus...

Its designs like this (and previous Civic) that let Mazda get away with the smiling 3!
I guess it makes the Fit less ugly too - you know when the average looking girl stands out as 'hot' next to her ugly friends.

IMO it has something with better lines than the frumpy corolla or the kind of run of the mill focus or cruze (both of which look good, just kind of plain to me). Yet not overly swoopy like the elantra...

Its a good balance.

Apparently people want to feel "upscale" in their econobox civic, but as I said before, it isnt a premium car designed to be "hot".

I think the refresh looks like a good improvement (from the pictures, I haven't even seen a 2012 up close in person, just on the road). They've also advanced the level of standard equipment pretty significantly over the 2012 which is either good or bad depending on how you see it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with leather or nicer interiors in this class of cars. It's not always about "prestige" or wanting to feel classy -- if you like the overall package of a car (size, fuel economy, power, etc.) and also like leather seats/heated seats then it's nice not to have to choose between the two.

I would tend to go for the cloth though, personally.
