Well, it seems that my door lock actuator is stripped, broken, or other wise emitting a grinding noise when I attempt to lock the door using the fob or when it attempts to self lock at 10mph or so. I’m wondering what the cost is to replace the actuator. I have no need to lock this car remotely and I’ve already disabled the 10 Mph feature. Should I leave well enough alone? I’m not gonna spend $500 to protect my 2012 Versa. I’ll miss it but they can have it.

2012 Versa sedan 4 door SV trim. Noise seems to be coming from passenger front. Doors will lock but with a grinding, gear slip type of noise. Wish I had known how easy it was to disable auto lock feature. Could have saved thousands of cycles over the years.

Tks. Sounds like they’re not too expensive. But with my limited mechanical skills installation could take weeks of hard work. Then there are 3 others with similar cycles probably on their last legs. Trying to convince myself that locking your car is overrated .

Not necessarily.

I had to replace a door lock actuator on a 4th gen Maxima. It had over 250k at the time. I didn't replace the other 3, and they never went bad.

You can probably find a video on Youtube or instructions on a forum on how to do it. You have to take the inside of the door apart, taking off the trim panels, but if the door still opens and closes, it's easy enough :)

I broke a tab or two on my 2015 versa sedan door panel investigating an intermittent door speaker. I was being as careful as I could. Being a 2012, if you can live without it, I probably would.

Thanks gentlemen. I appreciate your insights and this forum. My skills and life expectancy are limited so here’s my Rube Goldberg. The Versa is my beater, back and forth to my crossing guard gig. Sole driver 99% of the time. The defective actuator is drivers side rear. Only grinds on locking, not on opening. As aforementioned I’ve disabled 10 MPH auto lock to eliminate that annoying auto lock door grind. Each door(it’s the 4 door sedan)does have a manual lock mechanism. So I can manually keep 3 doors locked and use the manual door lock on the driver door to lock the car at the end of the day. Just set the manual lock and shut the door. Upon opening in the morning use the key fob(or the key)to unlock drivers side door. Actuator works silently when opening driver side door either way. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so cheap but then I think about how much I’ve saved with this car over the years for reliable transportation I don’t feel too bad. I do have a trusted Indy that would do this for me at a reasonable price. We’ll see.

Just pull off the door pad and unplug that bad actuator.

Still remember the haggling when I bought that car. We fought over the floor mat charge ($170) for a few minutes and the salesman said “ Lemme talk to the manager.” When he came back he says “ The manager said he was out in the lot and saw you getting off the bus! That’ll be $170 for the mats.” Drove it home an hour later.
