2011 Mustang GT Base - MT82 Manual 6-Speed - 3.55 Axle
5.0 DOHC
412/390 (SAE J1349 Results 416/394 @ 6500/4250 rpm).
Limiter 6850 rpm Soft and 7000 rpm Hard.
Capacity - 8 QT
OCI - 10,000 miles / 1 year maximum as specified by new IOLM (Similar to GM system).
Oil Requirement - 5W-20 Conventional
Factory Fill - 5W-20 Shell (Unconfirmed)

Im thinking MC 5W-20 at 30% Remaining or Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 at 0%. Motorcraft Filter.

Pick your preferred poison and interval (based on IOLM).

Well, If this was mine,I'd run Redline

Thats what I'm gonna run in the mustang this summer after it's finished being built.

My 06 Mustang GT has only had PP, but I have used MC in another Ford. Both are excellent choices but I say go with PP and continue to use the Motorcraft filter. I love my GT and couldn't part with it but the 412 hp in the new one has me salivating.

I would run the FF good and long on the break-in (wait for OLM), then switch over to some super-slick syn. Redline or Amsoil maybe.

For warranty purposes I'd probably do Ultra 5W-20 and drop the FF at around 1000 miles.

Why would Ultra be required for warranty purposes? I though PP had the Ford Rating? Or do you mean as opposed to "Boutique" Oils like Amsoil or Redline?

After the factory fill, I'd run full syn MC5w20 with MC filter and follow the OLM.
Hard to go wrong with the PP also...

Awesome car BTW.

I'd probably stick with my M1 in 5W20 I guess

and I can promise you if I had that car the oil would never cool off long enough to change it!

Maybe it needs the xtra horses to pull around that extra 1/2 ton of weight in the porker

If your talking about the difference in weight over other 2005+.

2007 Mustang GT Deluxe - Shipping Weight 3352 lb

2011 Mustang GT Base - Shipping Weight 3461 lb

If your talking about versus a 1987 5.0 LX Coupe I agree.

?? Am I missing something here? According to MT the new 5.0 weighs just over 3600 lbs., I can't believe any previous gen. Mustang weighs 1000 lbs. less than that. It's also the lightest of the big three Pony cars. I'd love to get myself one!

Pull up to one @ a stop light and see how long it takes for you to see brake lights from a porker

...opposed to boutique oils.

If I get one of these cars it will getting Red Line 5W-20 something after the first 3,000 miles, especially since there are 10,000 mile OCIs.

Ford recommends 5W-20, but Coyote engineers have stated that an external oil cooler will be necessary/desirable under severe conditions such as auto cross.

If it was mine....I would drop the factory stuff around 1,000 or 2,000. Then run MC 5w20 blend for maybe 10k, then switch to Ultra. Yeah old school but it would be my plan.
