Just bought a 2010 Traverse with 36k miles. Unsure of the type of oil that was used by the previous owner but what oil would be recommended. Debating to stick with the conventional 5w30 or go to a blend.

If you are going to stick to the OLM. I would would use any good synthetic and change it at 10%-20%. The 3.6 is direct injection and is very hard on oil. Make sure you bring it in to the dealer and have them perform the TSB in recalculating the OLM.

Heavy fuel dilution for one thing.

Could this *heavy fuel dilution* be a result of how the used oil is sampled?

A recent UOA shows that Fuel Dilution is not as severe as we thought on the very vehicle that used to produce bad UOAs. Search for the UOA's contributed by 21Rouge.

I have seen that UOA. Sampling method really isn't an issue I don't think, since many DI engines have shown higher than 'average' fuel dilution in UOA's.

Even though yours is a 2010 and is "pre dexos," it might be good to consider one of the dexos speced oils. QSUD, PP, or M1 would all be excellent oils with QSUD being the least expensive (usually) choice.

thats what i would do

The 2009-up 3.6L LLT engine does not have any engine oil fuel dilution.

Possibly some earlier variant had an engine oil fuel dilution issue, but not this one. Earlier ones certainly had other major problems.

If anyone has a link to issues on the 3.6L LLT engine, I would like to take a look.

Some of the DI engines I built back in the mid-80s did water down the oil a bit, but those issues would be easily solved in a modern electronically controlled engine.
