2009 gasoline purchases and mileage

Nice!

I did about 28mpgs in the wife's car (mostly city)

And about 25mpg in mine ( got some "updates" this year)
 
Miles driven: 20,168
Gallons used: 425
Average MPG: 47.6
Fuel cost: $1,033
Cost per mile: 5 cents

I don't burn gasoline, but I thought I'd still post.

For the metric folks:

Distance driven: 15,353 km
Volume Used: 1,563 L
Cost: $1,914 Australian
Average Unit Volume Cost: $1.224 / L
Average Consumption: 10.2 L/ 100km
Average Unit Distance Cost: Australian 12.5c / km


For the yanks:

Miles driven: 9,542
Gallons used: 413
Average MPG: 23.1
Fuel cost: $1,650
Cost per mile: 17 cents

With a spreadsheet or websites like Fuelly it's pretty easy.

Exactly. Once the spreadsheet is set up, all you have to do is remember to get a receipt every time you fill up and write down your odometer reading when you get in the car. I keep a pen in the console specifically for this reason. I've been doing this for about three years now and it's second nature to me.

Hmm, twice the miles I drove for the same amount of fuel. Nice.

I'll have to add a cost per mile figure to my spreadsheet, I'm guessing it will be about twice as high as yours.

In fact... (grabs calculator).. 9.74 cents per mile for fuel in 2009. I can live with that.
 
This reminds me of the old Volkswagon TV ads that proclaimed:
"Two pennies per mile! Two pennies per mile!"
I think this was fuel, oil , and car costs over a long term.

From worst to best: [below 0 F to Summer weather] I get 26 to just over 40 MPG. If I had to say an average, it would be 32.
