2007 Z06 LS7; unk oil 5.2k mi

this engine was untouched when i got it (could tell when i had it down to a shortblock in the car)

the car got all new valves, guides, valve springs, timing chain, balancer, ls7 lifters, trays, cam, pushrods, gaskets, seals, hardware, belts, plugs,
That sure sounds like you've got it dialed in. Do a few UOA's in the future and post the results. I'll bet the trend will be good.

Post #1 he's had the heads off and had them checked.

I think he just had nearly 20 year old old in his sump and there is break-in material as well as corrosive wear etc in it.

In any case, the car isn't going to blow up tomorrow and it would be silly to dump it based on a single UOA.
I get it but he had the heads off and they were checked however these engines are known to blow even if the heads look ok. I have owned Corvettes since I was 21 and there is so much information regarding bad heads that I wouldn't trust them to be good. If you google it there was a know problem before these engines were put into production. I am not saying to sell the vehicle because of anything however those heads should be rebuilt to prevent a catastrophic failure. The C6 Z06 is a monster but you have to be aware of the head issue even if they check out. A couple of buddies of mine blew them up at the track with very low miles on the vehicles and had to have them repaired under the factory GM warranty. Not sure what the exact fix is but it's about $2500.00 preventative maintenance which most C6 Z-06 owners have done.

OP I wish you the best of luck with your beautiful Corvette Z-06. Those cars are awesome and I hope everything checks out for you. I personally owned an 05 Victory Red Z51 like yours and drove it to 82,000 miles before I bought Blade silver C7. Again, beautiful car.

do you all miss your c6 at all?
I actually don’t miss it that much. I miss rowing the gears, as it was an M6 and my C7 is an A8. But I factory ordered my C7 and out of the 4 Vettes I have owned in my life the C7 was the only one I got new. So I feel a strong connection to it and will never sell it. My C6 was an 05, so it had the LS2, so it only had 400hp vs the 455 of the LT1. I sold it to a friend’s cousin and he really loves it 😊

I purchased my C6 brand new and loved the car however the C7 is a much faster and better looking car. The C7 has so many improvements over the C6 however the C6 is still a great car.
I think another reason why I never fully warmed up to the C6 was that it wasn’t that drastic of a difference over the C5 that I had. But I agree that the difference between the C6 and C7 is huge. That being said, the C6Z is a beast! A different league than my base model C6.

should i look into getting rid of the car? i haven’t sampled it since; i was looking to trade the car in if this is a huge concern.

first of all, gorgeous car. the Z is a legend in it's own time.

given the low mileage of the engine it wouldn't surprise me if half those metals are from simply breaking in. If the oil is the original fill or only the second change, i think this logic would track. additionally, if it has good pressure and runs quiet on an oil that thin (10 cst is at the low end of a 30 weight) then i think it would run even better on a stout 5W-40.

for a car that, overall, is so mint AND has had the top-end work you've already invested, i would never consider dumping it for a single oil report unless you're already unhappy with the rest of the car (options or color). get a good 40 weight in it and run that change at least 2k miles, and continue getting analysis done. i would recommend Oil Analyzers through Amsoil but Blackstone is OK if you're only concerned with looking at wear metals and not fuel dilution too. if you see continually high-trending metals another 5k miles from now, then you know you might have an issue in the bottom end or cam/lifters.

friend of mine has a C6 427 vert/6spd and he loves it - and he's had some amazing cars to compare it to. worth holding onto if you can.
