So I was driving my truck today and all of a sudden I felt something was wrong with the truck. It was revving higher than normal so I pulled off a main road to a side road and parked on the side. Shut the truck off, then started it back up. It would idle for a second or two then it would rev up and I wasn't on the pedal. Quickly turned off the engine and it would take a second or two to turn off. I allready tried to clean the carb and I replaced the throttle position sensor and it didn't work. I'm. Scratching my head figuring out what's wrong with my truck. It was acting normal when I first started it up today. And the truck has only 60,000 miles on it.

If your Silverado has a fuel pressure regulator, the diaphragm probably went bad and is pulling fuel from the vacuum line attached to it.

A rough guess but since you are experiencing dieseling there might be fuel in the intake manifold.

I'd suggest having someone with a scan tool watch live data while its acting up to see if any sensors are giving incorrect readings.

I don't know anyone that has a scan tool

Check for vacuum leaks by pinching off the brake booster hose, PCV hose etc. A vacuum gauge comes in useful.

I assume you already checked for a binding throttle cable.

I have the same engine in my truck and have not had your problem.

Without a scan tool I think you're dead in the water. Find a shop. Where it won't shut off when you unkey it makes me think it's more than just one issue--shutdown should turn everything off (ignition and fuel).

Maybe it's just a leaking injector, stuck open or something (dumps lots of fuel in, then it diesels on).

Engine shuts off when I un key it. Ended up taking it to the shop. Check engine light came on during the drive there.

Sorry meant to say idle air control motor.

Truck is purring like a kitten now.
