What they're referring to is that Ford specs Motorcraft filters to have the bypass valve in the threaded end, where most others have it in the dome end. The thinking is that during a bypass event, this will keep oil from washing over the "dirty" side of the media and potentially carrying debris into the engine.
Did you make a mistake? Well, how many millions of police cars, taxis, and pick-em up trucks use that same engine with a non-Motorcraft filter and last more than 200,000 miles?
The Ultra is a good filter...sleep well.
