As the title states, I am looking to swap my fluids in my 04 Sierra's transfer case, transmission, and front and rear ends. My question is I have the push-button shift for 4WD. Is this the Autotrac system? If so, do I need to use GM's Autotrac II fluid, or is their something else I can use (preferably AMSOIL ATF)?

Pablo, IIRC, the Amsoil website does not have a recommendation for this particular transfer case set-up and therefore recommends the factory Autotrak II. I believe it is confusing because there are about 4 options listed, some can use ATF while this one does not. This is the same transfer-case in my truck and I remember double and triple-checking to make sure I had to use the AutoTrak II fluid, which is what I used. The previous owner had ATF in it (or the dealership put it in) with no apparent ill effects but I'd rather use what is required by the manufacturer or a known accepted subsitute. I just don't know if Autotrak II is the same as ATF but I've heard its not.

If you have information that confirms that ATF can be used in the push-button selectable 4WD transfer cases for late model GM trucks and SUV's, please post it. I would prefer to use Amsoil's synthetic ATF if I knew it was better for my transfer case. At this point, I just don't feel confident about it.

To be honest, I never looked I just went by the owner's manual and the Amsoil website. Looking at the Amsoil site now it listed only 2 options (could have sworn it listed 4 in the past). One option is a manual transfer case (TRC) and they recommend ATF. The other option is:

Transfer Case,NV Electronic.....SLF[5]: 5. SLF is GM part no. 12378508 (U.S.), 10953626 (CAN).

So, at least for my year/make/model, even Amsoil says to use GM PN 12378508, which I assume is Autotrak II.

OK - what year, engine and exact model is your Sierra?

Check out MY 2004.

Amsoil ATF or ATD for the NVG 263-NP1.

Transfer Case,NVG 246-NP8 is SLF GM part no. 12378508 (U.S.), 10953626 (CAN).

Its not a Sierra, its a 2001 Chev Suburban, same drivetrain as the Sierra. On the 2004 Sierras I notice there are also two recommendations (as you've noted above). The NP8 RPO code is for a push button control transfer case while the NP1 RPO code is w/o the push button. So, for Compman1988's vehicle, I believe the recommendation is to use AutoTrak II, per both GMC and Amsoil.

Thank you all for the replies. I see I'll have to use GM's Auto-Trak II fluid until someone make a substitute. Pablo, do you know if Amsoil is in the process of doing this by any chance?
