When is this massive carbon on the valves issue going to get me?

I agree. I don't worry about intake valve deposits anymore. Out 2.0T has been sooting up the tailpipes since new (roughly 190K miles) and still runs like new. The Sportage doesn't expel even a hint of soot.

So I shouldn't worry about using any CRC GDI and Turbo Cleaner on my Tucson as PM?

I tried it once and others swear by it. I really can't tell you what you should or shouldn't do other than run Top Tier every so often to keep your injectors in good spraying condition. But I don't worry about the deposits anymore.

It's the ethanol these days, at minimum I would run top tier or simply mid grade sans ethanol. Mothers 2014 civic just got the "check emissions system" last week, now we are a boarder town and she goes into the U.S steady to fill up, and go to casino etc. Took out the OBD and got P0171 system to lean, anyways where she fills up the gas is notoriously suspect, but you know women or some people in general....oh fuel is fuel, been running it for years in other vehicles etc. Ya well now some cars and especially engines and their systems are very finicky. So I purchased a high concentrate fuel system cleaner with P.E.A.....mind you waited until she lost a few bars on fuel gauge...to almost half, added another fuel additive I have that I won't mention...cause I'll get my sack busted, cleared the code and took it for drive 45 minutes out of town. And currently let the tank run right to empty pretty much. This was Sunday, code has not returned. Additive I added helps reduce effects of ethanol. You could even use Amsoil quick shot, which combats ethanol. This doesn't get enough attention, everyone is quick to debate the regular/mid grade/premium debate when this is the real problem.

Anyways in researching Honda fourms etc....this problem was common before 80k and Honda has even extended warranty on fuel system. Common denominator tho on how everyone fixed this issue, was quality of fuel....especially high ethanol blends. If I was running a turbo at minimum I would be using non ethanol blends. I know not cheap, but this is where a majority of deposits are created, which in turn effects oxygen sensors etc. I mean common sense would dictate, that a fuel that burns cooler or not completely is going to leave behind some form of a deposit. And could quite possibly have a effect on fuel dilution in oil. Who knows.

Skip all the additive junk. Run top tier fuel and take that car out occasionally for a spirited run. Wind it up.

Additives have their time and place, and if you have that vehicle from new and put in top tier from day one...sure. But if you have not, or you purchased a vehicle that's used...going to need a bit of help. That top tier fuel isn't going to make up for few years of build up etc on its own.

And that Amsoil recommendation was for people who have no access to zero ethanol alternatives. Like me, where even premium, now is coming with ethanol.

Not necessarily 91, mid grade without ethanol if available....or every few tanks throw in Amsoil quick shot. And after winter before oil change through in a good fuel system cleaner, gumout has P.E.A or Amsoil P.I. Corolla does not need 91, but of its only blend that has no ethanol than run that. I know some states has 89 no ethanol but is quite pricey...but so worth it.

What year is year corolla?

Just re read it sounds like a D.I, so ya good fuel will help with deposits.
