After tons of reading and numerous searches this board has been extremely helpful. Recently I’ve done searches on oils and lubrication (sensitive subject, I know) and I’ve found that most people do their first OCI relatively soon after buying a new truck. While when/if to change to synthetic is debatable; I didn’t do my first oil and filter change until ~6,000 miles. Then I switched to M1 oil and filter. Could this be a potential problem? What damage may I have done? Will a UOA show any potential damages I may have incurred?

Thank you all. I appreciate your help. This is on an '06 Silverado 1500

Sounds fine. I think most people change out their oil because they're either anxious to get the best in there, or because they fear there might be high levels of wear metals from breaking it. Bascially if you wanna know if you shorted your cars life by even a month, I doubt it. Keep running synthetic in there, and the engine will outlast the body.

No damage. Switching to synthetic too soon in all reality is not as huge of problem as people make it out to be. Remember the corvette comes FACTORY FILLED with it.

6k is just a little longer than what I would have ran it, but that is just my preference. Im sure no damage was done. Don't even bother doing a UOA until after 30k otherwise you will constantly be on the edge of your seat wondering why it is taking so long to break in.

Thank you for your quick responses. I definitely feel better about it. I plan on running synthetic for 10-15k before every OCI with a filter change every 5k or so... thanks again
