Notice how so many of these major massacres happen just before major legislation regarding gun control. I think it was a day or so before Hillary Clinton was to sign a UN treaty regarding small arms which is aimed at taking second amendment rights away from citizens.

interestingly there was a FBI alert posted back in May 2012 that suggested that "terrorists" would attack movie theaters. Just after the incident in Aurora CO the page was removed from the FBI site. Coincidence ? Nope.

Alright. Yep this is what happened. No way it could of been a random act from a unstable person. I have known unstable people to do things that make no sense at all. I can assure you it was not because of some sort of mind control.

Well said, Tempest. I'd like to add that we're probably all in such a state of panic all the time about things like this because we live in the information age; and if we choose or allow ourselves to, we can become inundated with these stories (there's never a shortage) and they can lead any otherwise rational person to question, deeply and profoundly, "What is becoming of the world?!" when in reality this is the most peaceful, civilized, prosperous time in human history.

We can choose to use tragedies like this to cultivate our compassion and our commitment to valuing freedom which, as Tempest points out, is not free and requires much care and feeding. I think efforts to politicize events like this to advance efforts toward agendas is misguided thinking. Some effort needs to be made, perhaps, by helping some of these people lead a more balanced, healthful life (Aren't all of these mass shooters loners?) instead of allowing extended periods of isolation to further twist minds apparently pre-disposed to this type of twisting.

They were far more likely to be killed in a car crash than gunned down in a movie theater.

These things will happen in any relatively free society, and even those that aren't.

You can see why people are tempted to believe in such things, though, right? At least if there is a conspiracy there is 1) a definite agenda, be it evil or not, 2) deliberation and 3) a tangible person or group behind it. If you accept that this is random and unpredictable you feel less safe in your daily life, I think, than if you KNOW you need to be wary of the CIA or Monsanto. People want to understand things, and insanity like this event defies understanding.

The alternative to believing the CIA or some such murky, mysterious organization is behind this is accepting that somewhere, some time someone just walks into a place of leisure and kills a bunch of innocent people and people's entire lives get turned upside down without warning... Pass me the Kool-Aid as fast as you can: I'll take the CIA theory any day!

I can see why "people" want to see a agenda because it makes no sense to a rational person. But I have also known two friends that have murdered innocent defenseless people one was a 8 year old child and the other was a elderly woman. I have also witnessed a crazy man that fought his way thru gunfire with explosives strapped to himself and blow up a bus with full of people and killed 17, so I hate to say it but the world is full of unstable irrational people that do not see life in the same light so to speak as the majority of people. But I guess with a population of over 7 billion people you will get a few that see life differentially, as I see it different from you and you from me.

Exactly. Dozens, if not hundreds of people nation wide probably bought that much ammo this week, with no intention of engaging in an act of terrorism.

I have gone into Wal-Mart and walked out with 1500+rds of ammo and no-one questioned the purchase at all. A friend of mine has walked in and cleaned out a Wal-Mart of .223 and .308, almost 5,000 rds total, and no questions were asked. I probably have 6,000 rds in my house right now for my collection of guns, and I feel woefully under equipped.

Guess what. That theater was a "gun-free" zone. Worked out real well for the victims, seeing that the shooter obviously obeyed the signs.

And your extravagant hyperbole is waiting for any type of facts/statistics to back up your 10x statement.

What makes this need I think. Why so much? what does this do to someone? Like bench pressing 300lbs??Is this the size thing working its way in ?Very interesting thinking good to see this insight wise. Would less than 6k make people less of a person?? An oil stash I can see in a way if space is available and does not provide a fire hazard. But 6k rounds ?? Maybe there is something out there we need to be prepared against? Either way soon as the Olympics gets going we will forget about alot of itemsIMHO.

Yes. While the probabilities are not really that high in most places, you should expect to be robbed, raped, killed, etc., Everytime you go out, as you can not read the minds or control the actions of any one person. If you could, there would be no crime.

It's a free country. Why someone does ANYTHING that is legal is frankly, non of anyone elses's business. If I want 6,000 rounds but don't need them, then who cares.

Arguing "need" in a free society goes down a bad path.

What do you care? They are inanimate objects. Why do you "need" 10 pairs of underwear when 1 can get the job done? Last time I checked we all live in the United States and if I have the money to buy 10 million rounds, so be it.

Personally, I buy 1000's of rounds at a time because it is VASTLY cheaper to buy in bulk vs. your local retail store. My current ammo stash is slightly over 20,000 rounds. It has been there for over 10 years in my basement and hasn't harmed a soul nor has it turned me into a raving lunatic.

Ammo is cheaper in bulk, some people like to shoot a lot, and stock up when there is a sale. There is no difference between stocking up on ammo or oil.

Someone cant bench 300lbs.

anyway, to answer the question, the truth is out there.
I am well armed for Aliens, Zombies, and other unwanted things.
I am not a southern hick for owning so much, I am an American, its my right to own these guns/ammunition.
Remember this, Ban the gun, people will be unarmed against black market purchasers. If you ban guns, it will be the same as banning alcohol, there WILL be an underground on it. See: Movie - Demolition Man, they banned alot of stuff, and when the time came, and anarchy was running around, nobody, even the cops knew what to do.
Good movie too.

True. The first thing I would have also stolen was the Elite's Taco Bell.

I see a good price on ammo, I buy, same as with oil or other car supplies.

What do I prepare for, not sure, zombies, aliens. Maybe I have seen Red Dawn too many times. Either way it does not affect me in a negative way financially. I would like to add a SOCOM II to the collection, so that means stocking up on 7.62x51. I grew up wanting to be the one guy on the block with a massive arsenal just to say I had it. I think of that movie from the Governator, Commando, when they robbed the gun store and opened up that room. I wanted that room so bad.

There's three things about the killer I don't understand:

1. Why did he kill a bunch of people he didn't know?

2. Why did he pick a movie theater to kill people?

3. Why did he throw his life away when he was young, healthy, and full of potential?

To some of the original posters and questions, look how the MJ, Amy Winehouse threads started and went. Nobody who has seen recent history would want their thread to go down any of those paths.

antiqueshell and tempest have thrown out a couple of views that have met with derision, and some have asked other questions, Merkava included.

The case stinks and is fishy...and most of the events that provide a "solution" early after the event are fishy.

If you need an overwhelming public reaction, early in the piece, then it's got to be bizzarre, and shocking beyond belief to the public...and never let an opportunity go to waste.

In Oz' case, the legislation appeared to be sitting there, waiting for a trigger.

You will be hearing the words "sensible",and "reasonable", increasingly in the very near future.

The guess I have:#1 mental illness#2 In a cartoon of Batman there was a killing in a movie#3 same mental illness which went on without anything being done! My answer to all of this: You know how they hand out bats on bat day at the ballpark?? Hand them out, it is BAT MAN, I bet it will help alot. Also this 100 round stuff is very sick and a big part of the problem I know, I know, we have the Freedom to have 100 round magazines,
